You are correct. Of those standing, only Santorum is electable in the general election. Besides, Gingrich is not telegenic, an asset that was vital to Reagan’s landslide.
Actually, Reagan won because in the debates he immediately came off as a plausible and responsible replacement for Carter. It isn’t all combativeness and cleverness. Santorum is quite stable but sorry he is boring and looks like a child. Newt is clever and inspiring but maybe too much of a wise guy. I have to give Romney the slight edge on this debate thing.
As for me I would vote for Bob Dole against Obama if needed, if he’s still alive.
