This is interesting.
"The former Massachusetts governors gold-plated fundraising machine has depended almost exclusively on big checks from the wealthy individuals business leaders, Mormon allies, longtime Republican Establishment donors whom Romney and his team have been cultivating for years, pressing the cases that resonate for those crowds: That hell cut taxes; that hell beat Barack Obama; that hes inevitable and theyd better get on board.
But Romney has proved unable to tap into the emotion-drived small-dollar contributions that helped power Barack Obama in 2008, and which fueled even his more Establishment rival, Hillary Clinton, this time four years ago when she too began to run out of big donors. The result: Republican fundraisers say that despite his success so far, they think Romney is fast approaching a wall, and that he will likely be forced to pay for the campaign out of his own deep pockets."

I have been considering sending Myth $20, only because the minute I send money to a candidate they get torpedoed by state-controlled media.
I wouldn’t give him a penny if it was stuck to my shoe.
You too?
No worries. From the article “Romney also has a young professionals fundraiser planned for next month in New York, hosted by the hedge fund manager and former Obama backer Dan Loeb.” Disatisfied Obama supporters to the rescue.
LOL
WHAT A PITY. sarcasm intended.
That’s okay. The DNC will be happy to give him all the money he wants to take out Newt and Rick.
Is that why Newt’s smiling more lately?!
“Mormon allies”
Why didn’t we hear of Clinton’s and Gore’s Baptist allies? I just hate this identity politics.
Maybe the Mormon leadership at the highest levels realize that if Mitt wins the nomination, the fraud that forms the basis of their cult will become widely known.
I heard (but not verified) that Romney won’t spend any of his own money and that he dropped out the last time when donation money ran out.
Sounds about right.
If and it’s a big if Florida eventually has to apportion its delegates. And if, again a big if, Mitt tapped himself out with his big spending in FL and now defending MI. And if Newt can make his southern strategy pan out. This race could get very interesting after Super Tuesday. Napoleon used to use a brilliant strategic retreat maneuver to great effect. Collapse the middle and let your opponent charge into the gap depleting their forces against a rapidly retreating army and then when the enemy has exhausted themselves collapse the flanks with fresh reserves and carry the day.
Yes a lot of ifs, but those of us supporting Newt can hope that as a historian he has read Napoleon and Sun Tzu.
I don’t think Clinton and Gore had many Baptist allies, in 1992 Clinton won 21% of the White, Born Again vote, to Bush’s 59%, Perot’s 19%.
Like you, I think Mormons may be a little more into “identity politics”.
Dumb move throwing so much money into Florida for a primary. Not very presidential.
I seem to remember him saying his wife set a limit on using the family funds in 2008.
The R candidates are all low on cash all the time, according to fund raising appeals reaching my mailboxes (e and snail) on a regular basis. Although a few billionaires provide most of the cash for R primaries, all R candidates go through the motions of seeking a wider base of donors.
I think he will go all out because it is all or nothing in this last shot effort. Romney spent close to 45 million dollars of his own money last time, in his 110 million dollar campaign.
The effectiveness of personal funding is magnified because you can tap it when needed, including during your worst fund raising periods, rather than having to ride the peaks and valleys of donor supplied money.
Romney has always broke spending records, has always relied on money to make up for him being the candidate, and he has won one election, he didn't reach 50% in that Governor's race, and he left that office with 34% approval.
