Gingrich Poised for ANOTHER Comeback?

Focus on issues has Newt returning to form in the role of Republican elder statesman...

As Rush Limbaugh observed a couple days ago, don't be too surprised if you now witness a third comeback for Newt- and that was before Santorum tanked in Phoenix. The underlying logic? There hadn't been a GOP debate in a month... and he suspected Gingrich would be hitting his stride once they resumed.

And ole Rush might have been on to something: the Former House Speaker really delivered on Tuesday night in Mesa AZ, bringing most of the night's best lines while drawing a lot of fresh attention to his well-thought-out, viable plans for healing our wounded nation.

But it seems El Rushbo isn't the only one aware of what Newt can do on the debate stage: the final pre-SuperTuesday CNN debate has now been cancelled, this due to the fact that Romney, Paul, and and Santorum all bailed. You can be forgiven for thinking the voters deserve better, but apparently these three aren't going to let anything like that bother them.

I can see Mittens being a-scared of the Former House Speaker intellectual prowess and game-changing potential in any debate, while Ron Paul now looks like he's in cahoots with Romney... so there you go.  As for Santorum -after seeing what we've seen this week- if I was him I'd give a wide berth to talk of any further debates, too.

Yet Gingrich made the most of the opportunity while it was still there... some select gems from Newt in Phoenix:

"I would be committed first of all to a program of jobs and economic growth.

Second, the energy issue is enormous: the leading developer of North Dakota oil estimated recently that if we would open-up federal land and open-up offshore, we would have $16-18 TRILLION -not billion- trillion dollars in royalties to the federal government over the next generation, an enormous flow which would drive prices down to $2.50 a gallon, would helps us balance the budget, and we create millions of jobs.

Finally, I agree generally with the need to reform government: I think that if we were prepared to repeal the 130-year-old civil service laws, go to a modern management system, we could save a minimum of $500 billion dollars a year...

If we then applied the Tenth Amendment -as Governor Perry has agreed to head-up a project on- I think we can return to the states an enormous share of the power that's found in Washington DC."

"Everybody's talks about 'managing' the current government.... the current government is a disaster...

"It is utterly stupid to say that the United States government can't control the border! It's a failure of will, it's a failure of enforcement... 

Let me just take that one example: let's assume you could tomorrow morning have a president that wanted to work with your governor -instead of suing Arizona, helped Arizona, actually worked with Arizona...

What's the fiscal reality three years from now -in your emergency rooms, in your schools, in your prisons- of controlling the border? It's a lot less expensive. You just took a major step towards a less-expensive future.

So, I think it is possible to modernize the federal government, to cut taxes, and to develop energy simultaneously... and the three of those lead back to a balanced budget."

(Re. auto bailouts): "First of all, there was a huge amount of the American auto industry that was doing just fine: BMW in North Carolina was doing fine, Mercedes in Alabama was doing just fine, Honda in Ohio just fine... Toyota was just fine.

What we have is a UAW and a management system that had grown very -I think- incapable of tough decisions -because they were used to selling out to the United Auto Workers- so they came-in and said we can't change: and this president (on the behalf of the UAW) said 'You're exactly right!'

Now, the fact is Chrysler is now FIAT... so when we talk about 'saving the American auto industry' let's be clear what they where doing: I think they would have been much better off going through managed bankruptcy... but what would have happened is the UAW would have lost all of their advantages. 

And the result that you have is -I think- an unprecedented violation of 200 years of bankruptcy law by Barack Obama to pay-off the UAW at the expense of every bondholder."

(Re Iran): "This is a dictator -Ahmedinijad- who has said he doesn't believe the Holocaust existed, this is a dictator who says he wants to eliminate Israel from the face of the Earth, this is a dictator who said he wants to drive the United States out of the Middle East... I'm inclined to believe dictators-- I think that it is dangerous not to.

If an Israeli PM -haunted by the history of the Holocaust- recognizing that three nuclear weapons is a Holocaust in Israel- if an Israeli PM calls me and says 'I believe in the defense of my country'...

I do believe there are moments when you pre-empt: If you think a madman is about to have nuclear weapons -and you think that madman is going to use those nuclear weapons- the you have an absolute moral obligation to defend the lives of your people by eliminating that ability to build nuclear weapons."

btw... what's on Earth was up with the weird, hyper-enthusiastic handshake Santorum unleashed on Ron Paul at the conclusion... any theories?  Pretty bizarre-

Please allow me to mention in closing that we all know that getting the economy going and creating jobs is clearly the #1 issue with voters, one that the fall campaign is to be won upon. Most of us also agree that Reagan -who created 20M jobs- indeed had it right.

Then consider that in today's troubled times, the Gipper's economic guru Art Laffer has enthusiastically -and I mean enthusiastically- endorsed Newt Gingrich for president, a decision he said was based purely upon what he thinks of the Gingrich economic plan, which he referred to as "fantastic" and  "exactly a Reagan-Kemp agenda".

Regular readers of this blog will also tell you that the hot button issue here has long been national defense/homeland security... and imho it's only Newt Gingrich that's saying what needs to be said, how it needs to be said. What's not for a pro-entrepreneur, peace-through-strength Reaganite Republican to like?

I like Newts stance on the fuel crisis, to him its foremost to economic recovery unlike Obama handing out chunks of cash like a street drug dealer.

Per commentaries on CNN and FoxNews, the AZ debate may have been the final one for the GOP Primary season. If true, unless Gingrich's poll numbers shoot through the roof, he isn't going to get the nomination.

As of yesterday, his polling seemed to stay about the same.

The ole saying, a week can be a lifetime in politics, could be true. Any of the candidates could experience an Allen macaca moment, a Muskie teardrop, a Deaniac scream and see his presidential aspirations end.

Gingrich probably won the AZ debate, and Romney did not lose any ground, but Gingrich didn't really gain from the win. He has won one state. He continues to show 3rd or 4th in the primaries. Unless he can win at last one state before SuperTuesday or have a blow-out [unlikely] on SuperTuesday, Gingrich has become the hucka-hanger-on. And that may be the position he wants -- to try to be king maker going into the convention.

If seventy years of democrat fascist hypnosis due to fascist majorities in Congress has worn off, then the good Lord will see to it Newt is President.

If people are still mesmerized, then they're not yet ready for anything but another wave of fascism. Newt being elected is the easy way to turn the country around and even with him at the helm it'll be a real battle. If it's not Newt in 2012, though, it'll be an even tougher battle down the road and there will be blood.

In fact, I'll be surprised if we make it to November without organized violence by the fascists being common in some places. Remember what the Alynsky types are capable of or look up the sort of bombings and bank robberies that were going on in the seventies for , "the revolution" and you'll see what I mean. And now it's far, far, worse given the fact that there have been several generations brainwashed at the fascist factories where tenured Fascists teach and you pay for it.

This is the last chance, as I see it and a pray constantly that my children and grand children don't have to go through what's on the horizon.

Of all the candidates, Newt is the easiest on my ears and brain.

HOW he speaks is clear and unhesitatingly interesting.

WHAT he says is aligned with what I think I think about politics

The (presumed) thought processes behind his words make a psychic connection with me and I believe with many other Americans.

His plans appear to be mathematically do-able.

All in all, If we were ever faced again with an attack or other dynamic, Newt's voice (ala Bush 9/11 9/12) would be (imo) more mature and acceptively directive than Rick's younger sounding voice, Romney's too clean with no conviction voice, or Paul's squeaky, I told you so voice.

Political speakers are highly discerned and criticized by church goers accustomed to, and desiring spoken words that make enough sense that we will volunteeringly sit for a long, quiet time and actually listen to those words and want to do something based on those spoken words.

Most appropriate observation.

Newt knows his subject matter and presents it with confidence but not arrogance. He converses with us - not at us.

He has no equal in clearly describing complex issues. Santorum stumbles and Romney mumbles. They do not have that essential quality we expect in a POTUS - Newt does.

Your opinion of Newt really does not matter, since you already made the wrong choice to go 100% for an inexperienced and very lack luster candidate like Santorum.

It's voters like you who blow with the wind that are behind this current chaos. Newt has always been on message, and has real and legitimate solutions already planned an laid out. There is no excuse for this insane notion that the most “social” CONservative candidate MUST be elected, regardless of the fact that other than a strong “social” agenda, they have nothing else to offer. (Just talking about it and parroting Newt's ideas don't count either.)

In other words, if it were not because of voters like you, Newt would still be on top, and there would be no need to vote for a candidate like Santorum simply because we need to stop Romney.

I refuse to even be remotely, a part of this stupidity!

Looking at the Polling trends, they always lag about 3 days to a week, before any new trend is obvious. We need to wait about a week on this one, since there is much more happening on the news. Newt is also using his ability to his advantage,to get the public listening to his ideas and plans. He is getting headlines for his criticism of Obama, and now this analysis for why Oil Prices are spiking so rapidly.

And more importantly, Newt's recent analysis is also, not just rhetoric, it is well said, extremely accurate and spoken in a way to connect with average Americans, in a language they easily relate to.

I don’t dislike Newt. I have said I worry about the hidden baggage that may come out if he is the nominee. Mrs Clintoon didn’t get ahold of those FBI files for nothing. Can you 100% tell me that his womanizing history won’t reveal another bimbo eruption just like Cain? Nope, you can’t. I would hope that his two other wives were the only two women he involved himself with other than Calista, but who knows?

Newt did really good in the debate the other night.

I will say this, the non Romney candidates have not been successful in dirtying up Romney the way he deserves. Newts Bain attack backfired and Santorum has also been inffective.

I think Newt may have had a better chance of gaining if he could have scored some points on the hypocrisy of Romney.

It still could happen, but I think it may be too late for Rick and Newt if Romney starts winning.

You need to quit blaming others for Newts errors. I won’t take the blame because Santorum had a bad debate.

All you do is run around lobbing insults which so far has gained Newt nothing and helps Romney. If Newt fails to rise after the drubbing Santorum has taken, then Romney will win. There won’t be any stopping him.

Newt or Rick may need the others delegates if they both want to stop Romney.

Every time Newt opened his mouth he articulated conservative vision and grand strategy which seem to be beyond the other candidates. Santorum and Romney were busy battling between themselves. Paul was his avuncular, inarticulate self. He may have valid constitutional credentials but he lacks the skill and embracing vision to succinctly state and apply them. And he is a foreign policy disaster in this age of nuclear weapons and state sponsored terror.

For once, you and I are in 100% total agreement. Why any conservative voters are even remotely thinking of supporting Santorum, when a candidate like Newt Gingrich is in the running, is a complete mystery to me.

The man is in a stratum of word, deed, and skill, that is orders of magnitude above where the other candidates reside. If Republican voters can’t see this, and choose to nominate a lesser candidate, then I fear greatly for this country’s near term future.
