A rocket stove is an efficient cooking device that uses small twigs and branches as fuel to achieve high temperature cooking though an insulated combustion chamber and feed tube.

Here are the plans for a quick and easy rocket stove that’s made out of an old ammo can, a piece of stove pipe and a used coffee can. I built this ammo can rocket stove in under an hour and it works great.

I can boil 2 cups of water in 4 1/2 minutes on about one half ounce of alcohol. A wind screen is a must, though.

My understanding it depends on the altitude and the outside temp the water boils but is not 212 degrees.

Excellent idea. Thanks for posting!

I took the lazy way out and bought a rocket stove long ago. However, I only have one and more will be needed if TSHTF.

These things would also be great for barter if/when the time comes.

Rocket stoves can get VERY hot, especially if someone uses coal or charcoal. Stove pipe is designed to stand up to high temperature, but I’m wondering about the coffee can. Have you used yours enough to know how well it holds up?

This picture seems to show the extra space filled with sand; the directions referenced say not to use sand because it absorbs too much heat. Why did you use sand?
