Signs of fiscal strain showing up for Romney
Northwest Herald ^ | March 16, 2012 | Steve Peoples

...On Wednesday, Romney had five finance events in New York and raised about $3 million, with more set for Thursday. So the news is hardly all bad...

But it’s less encouraging for the campaign that the money is badly needed to refill coffers that had sunk close to their lowest levels since Romney launched his presidential effort last year.

It’s unclear whether he will tap his own personal wealth...Top aide EricFehrnstrom said Romney has not loaned his campaign any new funds this cycle and has “no plans” to do so.

Raising money to get through a protracted primary fight is clearly not how Romney wanted to be spending his spring. He had hoped to have wrapped up the nomination by now, ....

Romney aides acknowledge they’re looking at ways to reduce costs.

The campaign stopped conducting expensive polling ahead of the Michigan primary. Instead, it now counts on lower-cost voter ID phone calls, which aides contend are nearly as accurate as internal polls. Romney also stopped using the 150-seat plane that could accommodate the press after SuperTuesday and is instead flying with a small group of aides and Secret Service agents on a smaller and cheaper aircraft.

Further, his staff is pursing what it calls creative ways to maximize free television coverage to supplement a flood of paid television advertising. Romney notified local media, for example, that he’s scheduled to arrive at the San Juan airport Friday at 2:30 p.m....not typical for the buttoned-down campaign with the tightly controlled media schedule....

Henry Barbour, a Republican operative who is helping Romney’s fundraising in the South, said money won’t necessarily decide the nomination.

“Cash is always a fundamental factor, but if it becomes a one-on-one, it becomes a little less important,” said Barbour. “Romney has several structural advantages — cash is one.....

Money can’t buy you love.

And 33% polling won’t keep the money flowing.

I will laugh when he has to write his own check to his campaign.

You can stick a fork in Romney now(he’s done)or wait until after the election when he loses. Personally I favor now. Go Santorum!

This guy has probably spent more on his hair, than I have in my entire life. When he starts mailing out samples, then the bidding gets serious. Series and hue as vell.

In a campaign for office I look at several factors beyond the rhetoric of “I’m a Conservative, (Damn it).” In no particular order:

How his opponents, (Nominally on the same side), are treated by the Candidate, Romney fails there as he goes straight to Slash and Burn, Genghis Khan take no prisoners approach. Not caring that the other candidate supporters are going to carry grudges into the general election. He won’t get them back and will end up losing to Obama who will have no Primary opponents (of note anyway).

How he spends the money he raises for the campaign. Is he frugal, spendthrift or “Drunken Sailor”. Romney certainly isn’t frugal but doesn’t quite come up to the Drunken Sailor standards of Obama. I’m going to look at that more closely as it is an indicator of how he will treat the Taxpayers money.

Does he have any core values? Romney fails miserably on that one. Heck, Obama has core values and they are one’s I disagree vehemently with, but he does have some. Romney? I haven’t found anything that he isn’t willing to change to achieve a momentary advantage in the polls.

Seriously. And where does he find that '50s era slickback lotion he puts on his hair---in a nostalgia store? Or is it just porkchop grease?

I like Santorum too, he’s the most real of all the candidates. I wonder where Romney would be if he couldn’t outspend his opponents 4to1?

He was picked from the get go imo. I'd like to feel like I had a choice, but it's back to the least leftist...

Yes, he was. And here in VA, he and Paul were the only primary choices I had, thanks to the maneuvering of my Romneybot governor and lieutenant governor. It’s all fixed, I’m coming to believe.

Why? Santorum is certainly no Conservative either.
All of these people, on both sides, are corrupt.
None of them have put forth any real credible plan for dealing with the Debt or deficit and won’t.
