Rick Santorum Convicts Trayvon Martin Shooter On Hannity Show
The Conservative Review ^ | Mar.23, 2012 | Marcus Porcius

Posted on 03/24/2012 8:10:55 AM PDT by Josh Painter

Just moments ago on the Sean Hannity radio show, GOP candidate and RINO Rick Santorum took it upon himself to convict George Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case. He said, and I’m paraphrasing slightly:

*It was a heinous crime and he did a despicable, unjustifiable thing and the Sanford police should have reacted to that immediately.*

Again, I am paraphrasing a little as I did not have a recorder running to get his exact words, but that was essentially his statement.

To further paraphrase, in this case Anti-President Obama, Rick Santorum acted stupidly. He doesn’t know all the facts. He wasn’t there. He hasn’t seen the scene of the shooting. He doesn’t know if there was a disparity of force involved, which justifies using a gun. He doesn’t know who started the fight. He doesn’t actually know anything. Nobody but George Zimmerman actually knows what happened and why. The rest of us will have to wait until the evidence comes out… and it will come out.

But not Rick Santorum. Not when you’re in a race to make sure you don’t get called racist for not being properly outraged that a black teen was shot. No, then you run (don’t walk) to the nearest microphone and to all intents and purpose call George Zimmerman a racist murderer and the Sanford police his accomplices. It’s pathetic and obvious pandering.

If this is an example of his leadership, Rick Santorum has no business in the White House. Not that I thought he did in the first place, of course, but this just confirms it.

Race pandering deserves an F every time.

Gingrich is hanging in there all right in the rubble he’s been reduced to.

“....you have to understand how much of a tragedy it is for the family and for the young man involved,” Gingrich said.”

.
And what about Zimmerman? Noone knows if he enjoyed pulling that trigger? He might be in a state of depression.

" Quite frankly, even looking at it from Zimmerman’s point of view the police did him no favors by doing nothing. If they had investigated appropriately, it could have exonerated him and kept the Feds out of it. Thanks for the insight. =) I gotta say, In 25 years of prosecuting I have never seen such sloppy police work. It’s stunning to me."

Sloppy police work? And what are you basing that on? The police have, witness testimony, Statements from Zimmerman minutes after the incident, 911 recordings, physical evidence.

"the police did him no favors by doing nothing."

I guess you are of the opinion the police should have arrested Zimmerman for some charge whether they actually had evidence of a crime or not.

Attitudes like yours is the reason we need laws like the Castle doctrine and stand your ground. (even though I don't think stand your ground applies here). These laws are not to protect the innocent from criminals, it's to protect the innocent from the police and prosecutors like you.

If someone has acted lawfully in self defense they don't need to be further victimized by prosecutors who are trying to play political games and make headlines for themselves.

No, you’re correct, I apologize.

Gingrich said :The young man apparently was not following the person who’s being — who’s being investigated. Apparently the man, the shooter, was following the young man. Now that’s — that’s not a stand your own ground, that’s a chase the other person into their ground.

Gingrich also said the Police Chief had been suspended, that is not true. The Police Chief stepped down and the DA recused herself.

I love Gingrich and for the most part I think he was correct on with most of his comments but he also got some of it wrong. It is not my favorite Gingrich moment.

"The young man apparently was not following the person who’s being investigated,” Gingrich told CNN’s Piers Morgan in an interview Thursday night. “Apparently, the shooter was following the young man. That’s not a stand your own ground, that’s a chase the other person into their ground. And I think you’re going to find the law, as interpreted normally, doesn’t apply to this case.”

Santorum went overboard, but his statements weren't as bad as this particular author interpreted them. He didn't convict Zimmerman, for example. He argued, as did Gingrich, that "Stand Your Ground" does not apply. Of course, so does Zimmerman's lawyer, so it looks like Santorum is correct about that.

Why the heck are they wading into this. There are REAL issues facing our country. Why not talk about those? Leave this to the authorities regardless of what you think. There is no upside to a comment on a local issue period.
I have been SEVERELY disappointed by the lack of focus on the challenges we face. No federal budget! War! Way too much social payments to individuals! Tax Reform! Etc Etc. What happened a month ago in Florida is a LOCAL issue!!!

From your reference, you must have missed it:

But as of Friday afternoon, both Santorum and former House speaker Newt Gingrich were seeking to defend the “Stand Your Ground” law by arguing that it does not apply to the case.

“The young man apparently was not following the person who’s being investigated,” Gingrich told CNN’s Piers Morgan in an interview Thursday night. “Apparently, the shooter was following the young man. That’s not a stand your own ground, that’s a chase the other person into their ground. And I think you’re going to find the law, as interpreted normally, doesn’t apply to this case.”

zimmerman tried to defend himself and the neighbors refused his cries for help. He then used his legal carry concealed handgun to save his own life. Zim man will be fine.

Wow - the picture they are showing of Martin looks NOTHING like the 2nd one in your link and is most certainly a more recent one. He’s wearing a wife beater shirt and has gold teeth - wonder if Obama would still claim that Martin looks just like him if he had a son, lol!

The race baiters are making the kid out to look like a sweet innocent young kid and deliberately withholding age appropriate photos. This is such an orchestration!

It most certainly is relevant. The race baiters are deliberately using a picture of Martin that isn't recent at all in an attempt to make Zimmerman out to be the big thug. Look at the more age appropriate picture of him.

I'm not clear on exactly what happened and think everyone ought to wait for a thorough investigation before choosing sides. There is supposed to be a witness exonerating Zimmerman.

It makes me very suspicious that much of the protests are being orchestrated by the race baiters and media accomplices. Add to the fact that the only picture we've seen of Martin is when he was a much younger innocent looking kid and not a more recent age appropriate one.

After I posted this I read that that might not be his picture. I still believe the press is using a very old picture of him, but I don’t like to post things that I have doubts about so I just wanted to clarify.

"He doesn’t know who started the fight."

He sure does. The mall ninja did with his mall ninja act.

"a witness says Trayvon attacked Zimmerman:"

There's no witness at all to anything other than a fight in progress. There's no witness at all to Zimmerman attempting to end his mall ninja act. Nevertheless, it was the mall ninja wanna-be that stated the whole confrontation.

The transcripts of the phone calls make it improbable that Zimmerman initiated the violence.

Zimmerman tells the dispatcher that Martin is running and exits his truck to follow.

Martin tells his girlfriend that he`s lost Zimmerman (which is corroborated by Zimmerman telling the dispatcher he`s lost sight of Martin).

Zimmerman never caught Martin. How is he supposed to have initiated violence

If Zimmerman left the safety of his truck to go after a guy leaving his area, whether walking or running, is proof that Zimmerman was not being threatened.

Zimmerman has no probable cause to go after Martin.

If Zimmerman never caught Martin, how could there have been a fight.

Obviously, Martin came back to initiate contact. Within about three minutes of the end of the 911 call, he had Zimmerman on his back and was beating him.

Zimmerman doesn't look to be capable of chasing down a teenage athlete. Martin HAD to approach HIM.
