I am not exactly disagreeing with you, but it was evident when the incident at Chardon happened that moving the kids to the elementary school for pick-up helped secure the scene and keep the chaos afterwards to a minimum of parents randomly showing up to get their kids. In fact, I think Chardon provided actual time increments they could come get their kids.

I'm trying to figure this out. I mean once a boiler explodes isn't the danger mostly past? It isn't quite like a fire where the danger increases.

And so we had fire drills and even a couple of real fires back in the dark ages when I was a captive of the East Williston Union Free District, and we just went outside until the drill was over or the danger past. Sometimes it was even cold outside. But they never bussed us anywhere, and certainly not to an undisclosed location. Maybe they couldn't rouse the bus drivers who didn't know there was going to be an emergency, or maybe they just didn't care about us back then.

Oh good grief. So they shouldn’t have any plan to evacuate in case of an emergency? Does it automatically mean they’re getting ready to ship them off to the crematoriums?

There’s any number of somewhat more pedestrian reasons that it might be a good idea to move the kids out in a hurry... tornado alert... toxic spill... all sorts of potential events. And you can bet that the same crowd that bellyaches about this plan would be excoriating the school for NOT having a plan if they ever needed it.

I love a good conspiracy as much as the next guy, but c’mon... sometimes a bus is just a bus. If they’re ever going to march us all into the death camps they sure aren’t going to need school drills to make it happen.

Schoolkids can't even go on a scheduled and planned Field Trip without a signed parental consent form but for many of these 'drills' they confiscate all cell phones and bus the kids to undisclosed locations. Stinks to high heaven as far as I'm concerned.

While there are plenty of things public schools do that we can get up in arms about, what do you want them to do about the very real possibility of something happening? Nothing? I have been involved in lockdowns and drills. The big drills where we went off site (necessary if you expect to be able to do it when it matters) WAS planned in advance and parents knew, which I think is as it should be, but there do need to be unannounced drills, just like fire drills, so the kids get used to being prepared.
Everything that happens is not the government preparing to haul you all away to internment camps. And if your child was in a school where there was a shooter or a terrorist or a bomb and they had done nothing to prepare you would be screaming at the top of your lungs, as well you should.
On the other hand, if you don’t like public schools, I encourage you to home school. I am a big proponent of it. There are lots of reasons public schools are not the best place for your kids. But this isn’t one of them.

I don’t know the location, but the last thing I would want after anything like a boiler explosion or fire is a bunch of kids at the site. It would be far easier to get them somewhere else so their parents could come get them. Have you ever tried to contain a bunch of excited/upset kids?
