Everybody knows we like to laugh it up here on SoaresSpot on any number of different topics. But this is not one of those times. What I'm about to write below compels nothing other than sober awareness for Albany County voters.
That's because there is no funny or jovial element to this story, no appropriately humorous images or photoshopping--absolutely nothing about this incident can be processed and construed that way. Notwithstanding our comprehensive absence of faith in everything about David Soares, this is truly stunning--even for him.
In my lap I've this package somebody sent my way the other day. It consists of a number of newsclips and an associated "private" David Soares letter. Most of this material is annotated hardcopy original-source and/or expired hyperlinks--mostly out of state but some from the Albany Times Union (Not for nothing, that newspaper's co-dependence with Soares is an altogether separate topic). In any event, SoaresSpot is more than willing to share any of these source materials upon request.
Here's the short version of horrific events:
It's 1988, and a guy named Aires Correia goes with his wife and their daughter to a Rhode Island theme park. The next day the husband decides he was unhappy with his wife the prior day so he "teaches her a lesson." And as like most spouse-batterers, this was far from the first time this guy beat up his wife, a 20 year-old woman named, Maria Fatima Monteiro-Correia.
So Mr. Correia teaches Mrs. Correia this "lesson" (his words) by beating her to death. Leaves her with "killing or crippling injuries to every part of her body." And in the process manages to rape her--whether pre-or post-mortem is unclear. He also tears off chunks of his wife's body. With his teeth. Their 18-month old daughter watches all this and is found asleep atop her mother's corpse the next day.
I'm telling you all this because it turns out Dave Soares wrote a letter to the Rhode Island parole board attempting to spring this psychopath. I know this because I have a copy of this letter in front of me.
I'm also telling you this because it turns out that Correia is Dave Soares' cousin. So once more, we're back to the Soares family and friend meme that SoaresSpot elaborated here.
Also turns out that in doing so, Soares attempts to leverage his then-Assistant District Attorney spot in the Albany County DA's office as some kind of offical-unofficial authority on this stuff-- in what's gotta be some clear transgression of ABA professional ethics or NYS public officers law. At any rate, here's how he starts off his letter:
// "As an assistant district attorney in Albany, New York, and a cousin of Aires Correia, I have a unique perspective on the circumstances that has brought Aires to this place in his life." //
"His place in life," he says. Like he's writing a recommendation to the University of Rhode Island or something.
Soares then characterizes the "jurisprudence" surrounding his cousin's incarceration as such:
// "While the debt owed to society by Aires is substantial, society is better served by allowing Aires to liquidate the remainder of this debt through the positive contributions I know he is capable of making to his community." //
What is this guy talking about? That "society" is somehow better served by putting back on the street a lunatic that bites his wife to death and then rapes her? It is simply incomprehensible to me that Soares can allegorically frame this woman's massacre like this--like some kind of CPA. And it begs the central question in this election: How can somebody with these views possibly keep the women of Albany County safe? That's because if he believes what he's writing on behalf of his cousin, there is simply no room for it to exist in Dave Soares' mind.
But Soares' ensuing description of Correia--and his implicit trivialization of Correia's bloodbath--absolutely takes the cake. Hands down. But first, here's a partial description of the crime scene from the Pawtucket Evening News:
// "Blood and strands of her hair were smeared on the walls of the living room and kitchen. The refrigerator was blood-stained and had been moved by the force of a blow." //
I'm sure you get the point. Yet square in the face of such, Soares chooses to describe his cousin's responsibility for the crime the mere result of:
// "....a young man ill equipped with the tools necessary to handle the challenges of his relationship." //
So in Dave Soares' mind, this hideous crime is all about some kind of tool deficiency. Which of course leads us back (again) to Dave Soares' longitudinally perverse and bizarre view of criminal justice that we note here and here--and how that applies to family members. And that is that Soares makes up the rules as he goes along because there are no consequences for doing so. Just how perverse and bizarre is Soares in this case? Read what the sentencing judge said when she gave Soares' cousin life:
// "The jury felt it was a second-degree murder because it resulted from long and sustained and really obscene violence. You are guilty of a savage and relentless kind of brutality. Your cruelty is not even salvaged by any sense of remorse. You have pity, but only for yourself. When you say you didn't intend to kill her the court asks: Which blow didn't you mean? Which blows to her chest? Which blows to her stomach didn't you mean? Which bite marks didn't you mean?" //
Just entertain for a moment the notion that either Andrew Cuomo or Barack Obama were writing letters to parole boards in states where he had a cousin or uncle locked up for hacking dead his wife with a meat-cleaver or bashing her into pulp with a tire-iron or maybe a cinder-block. I don't think it's a stretch to say he'd ultimately be hounded out of office while enduring regularly-punishing editorials along with MSM reporters digging up yet-evermore gruesome facts and probably publishing the absolutely horrific pictures that accompanied this crime. (I don't have these images yet but I'm told where they reside.)
Ultimately, Soares is supposed to keep homicidal-freaks like this in jail. And not assist them break-out. I know we keep saying this, but again David Soares has to be the most pathologically inept district attorney and reflexively corrupt public servant in the nation. He has to be. Who else would even contemplate pulling a blood-soaked stunt like this for his or her relative?
Here's an interesting question: You think had Soares sprung his cousin, he'd let Correia stay in his house--with his wife and children--while in Albany visiting? Here's a more interesting queston: Do you think Soares has had the grandiose presumption or complete absence of self-awareness to look directly into the eyes of Maria Monteiro-Correia's parents while harboring his revolting perspective of thier daughter's murder and life-long maiming of their granddaughter's psyche? No doubt Soares thinks they're complete idiots. Just like Albany County's voters. Just like you. Just like me.
In fact, I know he does.
Bottom line is that this epic buffoon of a DA's gotta go. And soon.
We've got a PRESIDENT that, despite the fact that he is purported to be a lawyer, for all intents and purposes, has never appeared before a court of any type. Despite the fact that he claims expert knowledge of the Constitution, has sworn an oath to protect and obey it, yet, has spent his entire adult life trying to destroy it...
This Soares crook is pretty small beer, in comparison.
You left out that BHO taught constitutional law.
