Gun enthusiasts start defense fund for George Zimmerman
KDAF-TV ^ | March 29, 2012 | Henry Pierson Curtis

Posted on 03/29/2012 2:29:49 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

A firearms website created by some Tampa gun enthusiasts announced today it is collecting money to help pay for George Zimmerman's legal defense.

Christopher Kossmann, 23, and three friends founded Legal Boom: Gun law for the Gunshine State last year to explain Florida's self-defense laws, he said.

Describing legalboom.org as a "hobbyist website," Kossman said none of the members are lawyers and they pay expenses out of their pockets. He has not met Zimmerman, 28, but is trying to reach his attorney, Craig Sonner of Altamonte Springs to discuss the fundraising effort.

Zimmerman told Sanford police he killed Trayvon Martin, 17, in self defense on Feb. 26. The death of the unarmed teen prompted a nationwide controversy and the killing remains under investigation by a special prosecutor.

"Legalboom.org is officially accepting donations to help Zimmerman through what is undoubtedly the hardest time in his life and for his legal defense," the website states. "If you feel this article has changed your views or you already had this inclination please show your support!"

Kossmann said the public will have to trust him to deliver all money raised for Zimmerman in the absence of an accountant, non-profit status and other common features of organized fundraising efforts.

This is not a good idea. If Zimmerman gets off, it will make it only harder for responsible gunowners and CCW’ers. The laws are fine. Zimmerman’s judgement is the problem.

Speak for yourself, pal. I think it was a good shoot, and plan to kick in for Zimmerman's defense.

If we allow the left to re-define self-defense as murder, we all lose.

carrying a firearm and following a suspect despite having been advised that was contrary to Neighborhood Watch practice by the police liason only 5 months previously

It's really tiresome to keep reading on FR (a supposedly pro-2nd site) that being in Neighborhood Watch or whatever organization trumps my right to carry a firearm for self-defense.

Bull crap.

And if citizen disarmament is what Neighborhood Watch is all about, it is NOT American and I don't want it in my neighborhood. End of story.

Take it up with Neighborhood Wstch. They have designated their function as observe and report only.

Of course he has the right to patrol as an armed lone ranger, but he's not what Neighborhood Watch would recognise as a Captain of the Watch while doing so.

I count twice, once saying assholes and once saying crap and I don’t see it as a big deal.

And I guess you where there to witness him making a sudden move?

“That led to the decline of many fine neighborhoods throughout the US, .... Those neighborhoods are shells of what they used to be..Shame on George Zimmerman for looking out for his.”

Respectfully, Zimmerman has stigmatized the neighborhood he was supposedly trying to protect. Can you imagine trying to sell a house in there now? What effect this will have on property values? The Lawsuit against the HOA that is sure to come? Zimmerman may have been well intentioned, but he’s still an idiot.

You consider "fuç***g" as merely a colourful intensifier? Are you Australian?

And Zimmerman's testimony is that he reached.

“Are you thinking we need to sacrifice Zimmerman to the mob in exchange for peace?”

No, I think that Zimmerman is an example of what not to do as a CCW permit holder and we should not be making excuses for him simply to be contrary to the race baiters and anti-gunners. There’s nothing wrong with the laws in FL. The problem is Zimmerman’s judgement and his actions and an apparently inept police department.

Biz, this is bigger than property values and HOA lawsuits.

This is about racial hucksters forcing those who are trying to keep their neighborhoods safe, in conjunction with police efforts, cowed and afraid in their own homes.

This is about an administration who is hellbent on disarming Americans, fomenting racial animus, and creating more white guilt, for obvious political gain.

This is about a virulently racial separatist group who think they can conduct extralegal activities and put bounties on American citizens with impunity. This group considers itself a military not bound by the laws of “white” men and people are going to get dead over this recklessness. Property is worthless when it is burned to the ground.

What makes many Americans think this incident goes against the grain is they do not understand that they have the RIGHT to observe, follow, and yes, even confront strangers who are acting suspiciously in their own neighborhoods.

It was citizens who did this long before there were professional police departments as part of “hue and a cry”. We have always had neighborhood or village watchmen and we should continue to encourage citizens to get involved in their neighborhood watches. But neighborhood watches do not trump state or Constitutional Law. Zimmerman can exercise his 2A rights. He didn’t flourish this kid, and had no other options left but kill or die himself.

I don’t fault him.

Perhaps I am a little biased because I confront activity like Martin exhibited for a living and it is refreshing to see citizens doing the same. Citizens and police working together in a neighborhood sends a strong message to thugs. Stay the hell out or we will confront you collectively.

I have listened to the call several times and never heard the word fuc****g.

The only reference to reaching that I have seen in Zimmerman’s statement was that Martin reached for Zimmerman’s gun while beating on him. Of course accurate information has been extremely hard to come by in this case.

Bottom line nobody should try him in the media and he is entitled a defense, especially in light of the intense campaign of misinformation in the media. That is the purpose of our legal system.

I stand corrected, I did find that Zimmerman said he reached for his cellphone. I guess that is now justification the hit someone in the nose and beat their head on the concrete.

Again were you a witness to this being a sudden movement? Let’s leave the judgement to the legal system that has rules of evidence for good reasons.

I think he was in the LEO academy.

Closest he got was a 14 hour night course at Citizens Police Academy back in 2008. Which is not LEO training

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

This idea that “a neighborhood watch shouldn’t be armed” goes against all sense. The watch has been armed since all the watch had to be armed with was knapped flint on the end of a stick. Why in heck should it not be armed today? Because people are inherently less violent? Crime stats say otherwise.

Jesse and Sharpton are going to scream bloody murder every time one of their thugs are taken out.

I know. They think "their people" should get one free beat-down.

So you ARE saying NW volunteers must be disarmed.

WRONG. No federal program can trump enumerated Constitutional rights.

And where do programs that go against all sense come from?

SURPRISE! The Federal Government. Yes, Neighborhood Watches are REGISTERED with fed.gov.

No federal program can trump enumerated Constitutional rights.

True, but historically it has always been awkward when an unarmed man, who did not commit a crime, is shot and killed without a witness to the entire incident.
