Katy Perry boycott not the stuff of real feminists

According to Dictionary.reference.com, “feminism” is defined as: 1. the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men. 2. (sometimes initial capital letter) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.

Reading this, one can almost hear Helen Reddy singing out the strains of “I am woman, hear me roar.” Insofar as the concept of feminism is concerned, I can’t seriously believe that anyone, male or female, living in present-day America can argue with feminism’s goals. Equality and justice (together with life) are the cornerstones of our country’s founding; indeed, all our rights emanate from these principles. To say that feminism is a worthy goal is akin to saying that the sun rises each morning in the east. I’m beginning to believe, however, that there is a growing contingent of individuals who apparently face west each morning awaiting the sun’s arrival. Last week brought us a case in point.

I am sorry, they are both wrong.

The video is stupid but not for the reasons Wolff claims.

It’s cheap pretend feminism. You don’t have to join the marines to be strong, resourceful and competent woman ... and especially to prove some kind of personal empowerment after a breakup.

It is also an insult to women (and men) who REALLY ARE members of our armed forces, not some dumb singer/actress making a play for further celebrity.

Not convinced it is short memories. No one forgets about Jane Fonda or Hanoi Jane. No one forgets what really happened in Chappaquiddick. I think because Katy Perry is attractive people will give her a pass in the light that she did the one video portraying her as pro military.

She’s done a little more than that.

“American pop star Katy Perry has been verbally attacked by pro-Palestinian supporters after sending a tweet on Monday asking her followers to pray for Israel in light of the recent escalation in the south, The Blaze website reported.

“My prayers are for you guys tonight, Shalom!!! Please pray with us,” Perry wrote.”

Well when you’re taking about someone like that, who’s been doing something like that for so long, it’s impossible to forget their actions.

Does that make you a 99%er? You don’t really HATE her, you ENVY her for her perfect proportions.

It’s kind of funny that only 2 years ago (maybe 3?) everyone was up in arms over her because of her racy videos and subjects, like the controversial songs California Girls, I Kissed a Girl and quite a few conservative talk show hosts were warning the masses at large about this womans intentions to indoctrinate young girls with sex, sex and more sex.

You have to realize how fast people get thrown under the bus, yet how easily they can jump out from under it and be loved again. Unfortunately, this pattern is true for both conservatives and liberals. Do something to piss off forum group think, and you're despised. A few hours/days/weeks later do something the group think approves of, and your an icon to be revered.

My understanding is that Katy Perry was a church singer who started her career performing Christian music. She is a talented singer and realized regular pop/secular music could get her far more fame and money than doing the religious stuff. For years conservative music critics hated this woman for her "betrayal of Christian values" and for songs like "I Kissed A Girl". Suddenly she releases something that pisses off the anti war feminist types and there is every chance the same people that detested her a few months ago will suddenly find a soft spot in their heart for her - purely due to the political "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" angle.

We see the same thing with conservatives like Rubio, Ryan, etc, endorsing Romney. Hated and thrown under the bus this week, but almost certainly to be loved again in a few weeks/months. It really is almost comical.

It is comical, absurd and people who do this are sort of flip floppers instead of sticking to their guns and not following popular public opinion. Rubio kind of killed it for me and is dead to me now. I will never support someone that supports a RINO like Romeny.

They are ALL going to support and campaign for Romney. Ron Paul might be the exception, but the rest will - and that includes Gingrich, Santorum, Palin, Cain, Perry, etc. ALL of them are going to support him in this campaign. Are you really going to write them all off? I really doubt it.

Ms Perry hangs out with Snoop Dog. In spite of her “cuteness,” would anyone here really want to have Snoop Dog’s “left overs?”

You’re right - the feminist’s battle was won long ago, just like the battle for racial equality. Nonetheless, they always seem to have to find a vent for their frustrations, just like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton on the race side.

Yiu also said a mouthful when you said the video is sexy - totally hot!

I can’t understand why women want to be “equal” to us guys- do they really want to be dragged down to our level?

;^)

If they stated they werre only supporting him to beat Obama I’d be ok with that. For them to posture and make it seem like Romeny is the berst guy for the job as president makes me sick. If they are pretending to like him in the court of public opinion, I say they need to stop playing these political games and realize our country is at stake and we do not have much time. Do any of even the so called conservative Republicans have the conservative American’s needs or best interests as their top priority?

I think it is kinda obvious that is what they are doing. They can't say, "hey this Romney guy really sucks and it's a real shame he is a our nominee, but vote for him anyway because at least he is better than Obama". An endorsement like that would obviously hurt more than it helps. Romney is going to be the nominee, there is just no way around that now. All the endorsements at this point are just politicians getting on board and hoping to beat Hussein in the fall.

Katy hasn’t trashed the US and/or our Armed Forces. Nor did she leave someone to die.

Her “art” may lead some kids astray, but most of the harm from her behavior will fall on her in the long run.

Considering how Snoop Dog frequents strip clubs and prostitutes, and he has spent a lot of time partying with Katy Perry, if you had a shot at Katy Perry would you really want to go there?

I don’t know how often she partied with Snoop Dogg. Snoop Dogg makes a lot of cameo appearances on other people’s songs.....sometimes it’s the decision of the producer, and not the artist.
