Mitt Romney walks away with majority of North Dakota delegates despite finishing third

Here is a “Reality Check” report from North Dakota on how Mitt Romney is walking away with 16 of North Dakota’s 25 GOP Delegates to the National Convention even though he came in third place behind Rick Santorum and Ron Paul in Super Tuesday voting.

The fix was in from the beginning. No matter who won the primaries or the caucuses, Romney would be the winner. Santorum won Iowa but Romnney was given the headline and the momentum. Paul won Maine but we've already published the result for Romney so we won't bother changing that. We'll change the rules so Gingrich and Santorum aren't on the ballot in VA. And even if somebody else wins the state, we'll make sure that our boy Romney gets a majority of the delegates to the convention. It'll be Romney and only Romney.

We need to take over the committees in the states next. They've been pushing these worthless moderate nominees at every level for years. And the processes they put in place are so convoluted that only the preferred candidates have the organizations to get on the ballot or garner enough support to get the nomination.

Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain, Romney.

Almost all the national delegates interviewed by The Associated Press said they plan to abide by the March 6 caucus results, meaning Santorum would get to keep his delegates.

Where has it been shown the delegates do NOT plan to follow the caucus vote?

What a sham. What is the purpose of even having a caucus and voting in the primary if you “aren’t a member of the committee”?

It appears to me the sham is in the reporting.

Multiple articles have been written stating that most of the delegates personally favored Romney, but all interviewed have said they would follow the caucus vote.

-—Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain, Romney-—

In the wake of Reagan, it’s hard to imagine much worse.

The American leadership is so thoroughly corrupted at this point that an “election” has become a mere formality.

According to this film, the caucus vote meant absolutely nothing bccause the delegates sent to the convention were not in proportion to the caucus vote.

It’s great if Santorum’s delegates will still vote for Santorum, but Romney’s delegation outnumbers Santorum even though Santorum won the caucus and Romney came in third.

They fixed the results all the way around and through. And we’ve seen these shenaigans in state after state. It’s insidious and a sham.

The people have been given the illusion that they are choosing their own nominee when they are just being patted on the head and being told “that’s nice, but we decide who the nominee will be and we will decimate anybody who stands in the way.” First with the Cain allegations, then destroying Gingrich in Iowa and Florida, then making sure Romney won Michigan and Ohio. Then fixing the delegate counts to the convention.

The delegates are selected far prior to the actual vote. It is unlikely it has ever matched the vote in any state in any year.

But where is there any claim that the delegates will not follow the vote? All I see is a guess masqueraded as fact. Every delegate interviewed said they would follow the vote.

That is just another part of the game. It arificially increases the amount of delegates that Romney “has” and so the media, the Romney campaign can say that Romney’s the eventual nominee. Then the people in the remaining states say to themselves, “well, my candidate’s not going anywhere, I might as well vote for Romney. Then Romney wins those states and so the delegates.

Even should the delegates in ND vote along caucus lines, it will not matter at that point.

Paul won Maine but we've already published the result for Romney

Funny, I am looking at the Maine caucus results and it looks pretty clear to me that Romney won 39% of the vote to Paul's 34.9%.

Paul hasn't won squat unless you count getting more votes than Romney in the US Virgin Islands. Problem is, Paul voters were apparently too dim to realize that voting directly for the delegates is what counts. Because they failed at this, Romney's delegates ended up getting elected and Paul 112 total voters to Willard's 101 netted Paul only 1 delgate while Mitt got 7.

I was working from memory on Maine. I remember shenanigans there. It was an example in my mind of the powers that be manipulating the system. My point is that they seem to have arranged things so that only the preferred nominee will get any traction, and rules will be changed, conventions and caucuses will be rigged. And nobody knows the rules until it’s too late. That’s intentional. It’s how we’ve gotten one moderate nominee after another and either close wins or losses since Reagan left the scene. And the gravy train keeps moving right along.

Back in '76 the Republican "brand" was severely damaged. The only people who would openly associate with it were those who actually believed its stated principles.

Then Reagan made the GOP popular again.

So the opportunists came in, attached themselves to the spiffed up brand and rode it for personal gain until it is once again a severely tarnished brand.

My point is that they seem to have arranged things so that only the preferred nominee will get any traction...

The candidate the establishment supports certainly has an advantage. And one of the reasons the establishment will support said candidates is their ability to generate huge amounts of money and put together an effective organization.

Look, an excellent, charismatic, reasonably electable general election conservative could have won the nomination. Unfortunately, there really wasn't a conservative candidate like that this time around - and often isn't in cycle after cycle. I guarantee you that had Perry been a better communicator, he could have won the nomination as a much more conservative alternative. The problem is the debates proved he was not up to the job on a national level. Had Palin wanted to run this time around she may very well have been able to win the nomination - she'd certainly have had the money and organization to overcome any obstacles the establishment tried to put up. My guess is she calculated she could not win a general election, but she certainly would have had a good shot to win the nomination.

This cycle produced basically no compelling conservative alternative. That is the problem. I ended up supporting Newt, but too many conservatives don't like him. Social conservatives ended up doing the typical socon thing and supporting the candidate who could quote scripture best - so they are back to supporting Santorum, who is effectively just the next version of Robertson and Huckabee. None of those candidates is electable on a national level so ofcourse the establishment (who are in the business of winning elections) won't support them. And it makes things even more difficult when so many conservatives wasted time and money on silly candidates like Cain - who was really just winging it and being paid through campaign donations to do a book tour.
