Obama mocked Romney this way: "He said that he's 'very supportive' of this new budget, and he even called it 'marvelous' — which is a word you don't often hear when it comes to describing a budget." Comic pause. "It's a word you don't often hear generally."
This Reuters article takes the position that Obama meant us to think that a man who says "marvelous" is "out of touch" because "marvelous" is "a seemingly out of date" word. Reuters also quotes a polisci prof saying, "It's a word you kind of associate with the upper class, and I think that the intention was to tweak Romney for being wealthy and, you know, sort of brought up in the kinds of circles where they would say ‘marvelous.'"

Aw c'mon. Give the guy a break once in a while!
After all, the Big Ø did attend the most exclusive private high school in Hawaii thanks to his wealthy grandparents, he did spend an undergraduate year or two smokin' pot at LA's hoity-toity Occidental College, and he did obtain* degrees from Columbia and Harvard. Surely it can't be his fault that a bit of those elite instutions' high-falutin' speech habits rubbed off on him.
What really grate against my sensibilities, however, are his frequent attempts to shift into a psuedo-ebonic accent, as when he panders to an African-American church audience. Perhaps not as awful as Hilary's blatantly faux southernisms, but certainly terrible enough.
*Note: The word "obtain" is used here deliberately, since we have no evidence that Øbama actually "earned" his two Ivy League degrees.
At least he didn’t say “marvy-poo,” as Obama probably says in private.
