Preppers: ‘Anywhere from Incredibly Practical to Practically Certifiable’
SHTF Plan ^ | 5/3/12 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 05/03/2012 5:28:24 PM PDT by Kartographer

With the 2012 Doomsday date quickly approaching, anxiety and fear are gripping more and more people across the globe. According to a recent survey of individuals in over twenty countries, 15% of people worldwide believe the end of the world as we know it will happen in our lifetime.

“Whether they think it will come to an end through the hands of God, or a natural disaster or a political event, whatever the reason, one in seven thinks the end of the world is coming,” said Keren Gottfried, research manager at Ipsos Global Public Affairs which conducted the poll for Reuters.

“Perhaps it is because of the media attention coming from one interpretation of the Mayan prophecy that states the world ‘ends’ in our calendar year 2012,” Gottfried said, adding that some Mayan scholars have disputed the interpretation.

Sometimes, a simple ESAD is the best response to newbs with 'tudes.

Too bad there isn't a PLONK button on FR.

Learned how to cook food that I enjoy. Stopped wasting money eating at restaurants.

That is a big one. It is a substantial amount of money involved when eating out. Sometimes I wonder if people even know how to prepare food anymore.

Many don’t. Besides not getting it at home, do they even teach Home Ec in schools any more?

the one comment I hear the most is that they have a ‘feeling’

Definitely. There is a common sense of unease out there. And, depending on your faith and eschatology, you're going to attribute it to various things.

For some, it's the Mayan calendar thing, or planet X, or pandemic, or financial collapse, or the Tribulation.

Harder, but not impossible.
google hits on prepping on a tight budget

Also, from your handle, you already have a HIGHLY barterable skill for "post-SHiFT".

I like to get the packs of egg noodles and the various dried gravy packs.
Chicken Gravy, beef Gravy, Country Gravy, whatever - stores for years.

Toss in some fresh/canned veggies, home grown spices, rabbit or squirrel if you got it, you have a dam satisfying meal!

I must have 40 lbs egg noodles in storage and thats just egg noodles, not other types of pasta, tons of gravy packs, dried and powdered potatoes, various beans and rice, all that stuff can keep you alive and you can actually eat quite well!

You’ve got enough money.

$17 for 50 lbs rice or bread flour.
That, a water filter/purifier, and my tagline will get you well started.

Someone remembers the old newsgroups and BBSs. Technically, that makes you older than dirt. ;)

3.5 floppies are 'old school'. Sigh. I still have SSSD 128K 8" floppies with DBase and WordStar on them. My nephew calls my living room the 'museum exhibit of ancient technology'.
