Not trying to get personal, but your pet is your personal responsibility.

I have 3 big shepherds, and no fencing on my property. The only time any of them have left our property without my express permission is to stick themselves between a neighbor kid and a stranger on our street (and the parents are grateful for it).

If your kitty is causing problems with your neighbor, it is your problem. Lock it up indoors - it’s not your neighbor’s fault your cat finds his car irresistable. And it’s not his problem to deal with.

I imagine a neighbor telling me to spray citrus or lemon all over my vehicle to keep their straying pet off it. I’d give them the same response i’m telling you now - “It ain’t my problem, it’s yours. and it’ll be a bigger problem when Hello Kitty doesn’t come home because I’ve plinked her furry butt off my collectible car”

Sorry, people who let their pets roam at will piss me off, and I’ve had cats all my life.

Call your vet for tips on keeping your pet entertained indoors or on your own cockadoodie property, where it belongs.

You need to make the cat associate that area with unpleasantness. What can work is when the naybor catches the cat, to let the naybor get ruff with kitty right next to the car. Ruffness, such as rolling the cage with kitty inside, yelling, banging, spray water on kitty while in cage, etc. All things that will not harm kitty, but certainly scare him. Guaranteed, kitty will not return to that area. Plus naybor is happy to oblige as well.

You said the car is kept in an open carport. How about something to cover the carport so the cat can’t get to the car?

I sympathize. Hope you work out something satisfactory to both of you.

He’ll complain for a while but then get adjusted to being an indoor cat. The vast majority of cats live long happy lives as indoor cats.

It is time for your cat to become an indoor cat.

Anyone who lets their cat go outdoors (unless you live on a farm) is insane, stupid, clueless. Do not let cats go out. Period. The world is full of cars to run them over, vicious children who will hurt them, dogs who will kill them.
You have trained them improperly, and now they are miserable because they want to go out. They will be more miserable wounded, maimed, or dead. Do not let your cats outside. Period.

Let me praise you for wanting to be a good neighbor. Cats do scratch cars. I know, our neighbor has a cat who loves our car, I think he sees his reflection on the car, but he has scratched the windshield. And our neighbor is not as concerned as you are! Besides, if it is a male cat, it will spray on your neighbor’s car. Again I’m talking from experience. I’ve haven’t found any way to keep that cat away from my car, so the suggestions to make yours an indoors cat are probably the best you can do.

If you have a patio, turn it into a CATIO. Put up shelves and trees to climb (get him off the ground), grow catnip, kitty grass and mint, and put out toys to play with. Learned this on My Cat From Hell with Jackson Galaxy.

He’s probably upset because you are a Zionist conspirator. No, seriously, become a liberal and force the town council to make him move. No, but even seriouslier, give the kitty an enclosed porch or some such structure so it can stare at lightning bugs during the summer months. The cat won’t retaliate unless, of course, you become two inches tall, then watch OUT!

Keep your little cat inside your new home.
The cat will adapt, eventually.
If you “feel” your cat is so very unhappy with the new restricted territory, adopt the cat out to another family elsewhere.

You can't seriously expect a neighbor to tolerate your pet cat habitually trespassing on his private property, can you?

I’m beginning to suspect that you really don’t have a problem, but that you’ve invented such a relatively innocuous case to provoke the contributors to this forum into revealing their true selves, and by gosh, it is working!

Of course, you should try to be a good neighbor.

On the other hand, if he abducted my cat, I would suddenly develop an interest in bird feeders. A lot of bird feeders. Located as close to the property line as possible. Plant some mulberries and raspberries, too - just to add a little color to the bombing runs...

Had the same problem with new neighbors that were all the extreme end of the digestive tract.

Kitty showed a pellet under the skin during an X-ray. Origin unknown.

New neighbors went bankrupt and moved elsewhere. McMansion is reverting to the elements and the cat has lost interest in that place.

Right up front - I love cats. One of mine hated being indoors - but I got him a scratching pole with a catnip mouse attached to play with.

My neighbors cat comes into my garage and urinates on the windshield of my car & even though I don't want to - I have to keep my gararge door closed..

I beg to differ with some of the posters. The car belongs to the guy & nobody has the right to tell him where to park it or anything else to do with it. It's HIS car in HIs yard.

He sounds like a good neighbor or he would have gotten rid of your cat without saying a word to you. He was not obligated to do that, but he sounds like a good person & he did.

Personally, I think you should keep your cat inside and quit letting the cat run the show & causing hard feelings between good neighbors. Nothing horrible will happen to your cat if he can't go out - so man up & keep him home.

Guy is well within his rights but it seems like he’s overreacting to me. I can’t imagine being inclined to trap a new neighbor’s cat and dump him somewhere just because of cat prints on the hood. I say this as both a cat guy and a car guy. I mean, maybe if it went on for months and the new neighbor was indifferent to my complaints and did nothing at all to stop it. But if he was conscientious and obviously trying figure out some kind of solution, I would put up with the minor annoyance of cat tracks for quite a while before even considering something like trapping the cat and dumping him. That’s like absolute last straw kind of stuff.

But that’s just my glancing thought. Don’t know the neighbor, don’t know the car, don’t know the situation. I agree with others that the most straightforward solution would be to keep the cat inside. Hopefully the cat wouldn’t take too long to adjust.

Purrfect Fence 1. Why is such a rare care sitting outside being exposed to the elements, wind, rain, hail, UV light etc. 2. Not much of a cat lover if he is going to trap and do the most cruel thing in the world to a cat...'carry him off.' Yeah...dump him somewhere!!! 3. You are ultimately responsible for your cat's well being. Both inside and outside the house. Invest in a cat door and a kitty enclosure. There's lots of plans on the web.
