Any person who has begun to seriously prepare has had to make compromises between current wants and future needs, how much to spend on preparations, and how many people to stock supplies for. If youre married, you need to have a spouse that shares your concerns or youre going to fight over every #10 can the mailman delivers. I dont need to go into detail on how much you should store, how to store it, or what makes the cut on your List of Lists. The purpose of this article is to help communicate the need to prepare with those in your family that you want to help without alienating them or downgrading your own preparedness plans.

Prepper's PING!
Please consider these our weekly Prepares Thread.
To start things off someone posted on another thread why go to all the bother with storing all this stuff in a onesy twosy way and just buy some Mega 1-Year Food Storage Set. First I think most of them are very expensive, especially when you consider how easy it would be for you to prep much of it yourself. A lot of the basics like sugar, salt, etc you can just place in something air and water tight and you are done. Many other things like spices and dehydrated vegetables (which by the way many of which I no longer buy commercial, but buy frozen then dehydrate them myself), water tight and then trow in an oxygen absorber and you are done. Most of this isn't rocket science and just takes a bit of your time, but can save you a lot of money.
Secondly the problem with is mega packs is they generally don't fit the rule: Store what you eat and eat what you store."
Now this is a personal choice and I will admit some of these meals are very good, but I dont like all of them. Many of these kits have say meals A-B-C-D-E-F meals say you like A-C-D, B and F are OK, but you wouldn't feed E to you dog! This means you are stuck with 1/6 of your food storage that you will only eat it when you have no other choice.
And seeing how you dont like it and you have reached a point where thats all you have left to eat then not only will you have to eat it you will have to eat it day in and day out for???
Now if I have ingredients and basics I can make pretty much what I want and the way I like it.
Thats my two cents worth.
