Shameless Self Promotion, Vanity
Cold Quiet Country ^ | 11/13/2012 | Clayton Lindemuth

A novel about justice. Set in small town Wyoming in 1971 and unfolding in a single day, Cold Quiet Country explores corruption, morality, and revenge. Published by MP Publishing from the Isle of Man. Edited by Guy Intoci.

Please be warned, the novel's main theme is delivering justice to sexual predators, and the beginning is quite coarse. My hope is that by dealing with the subject matter honestly, I can increase awareness and encourage victims to speak out. If the introductory chapter piques your interest, please consider helping me expand my reach by recommending the page to others. I appreciate your help. On his last day in power, with a blizzard threatening 18 inches of snow, Sheriff Bittersmith is called to the scene of a crime. A farmer has been stabbed through the neck with a pitchfork. Two sets of tracks lead from the barn, and the dead man’s frantic wife exclaims her daughter is missing. Convinced it was Gail G’Wain, the orphan who worked at the farm, Bittersmith follows the vanishing footprints into the storm.

Three miles away, Gale G’Wain is alone. He’s holed up in an empty farmhouse, half-dressed and nearly dead after falling through lake ice. Innocent, but unlikely to ever stand trial in a town as corrupt as Bittersmith, he places a loaded rifle at every window and waits to face whatever hell the dead man’s bloodthirsty sons and the Sheriff’s Department have in store. He doesn’t wait long.

Set in small town Wyoming in the 70s and unfolding in a single day, Cold Quiet Country explores corruption, morality, and revenge.

Just between paragraphs, you changed the character's name.

I'm dubious about the project, but good luck.

Glad you caught that. Eleven edits, two line edits by the publisher, and a brain-dead error like that the first time I post anything outside of Facebook. Thanks for posting.

Cold Quiet Country is listed on the upper right. It will be released in October as an Ebook and November as a trade paperback.

Cold Quiet Country explores corruption, morality, and revenge.

Intriguing. Sounds like a thematic template based on any given Obama administration scandal.

One of the reasons I thought to post about Cold Quiet Country here is that this is one of the only places I'm aware of where people still have old values... still have the ability to see outrage and call it for what it is.

The book isn't about Obama, but it is about taking a moral stand against evil. I used to hang around here a lot from the end of Clinton's term to the beginning of Bush's second. I figure some of the folks around here really get it.

Well I wish you success in your project. I know writing is hard work on several levels, and promoting it can really be a hard slog. I’m always on the hunt for new authors who don’t recede to formulaic, predictable prose. You know what I mean. I’ve got several books I’m reading currently but I’ll make a note to look at your project later. I’ve d/l numerous free books for my Kindle and ended up purchasing later works by engaging authors. And don’t forsake the power of Twitter to get the word out- much greater reach if you have assembled a following. Again, good luck.

Okay, I snuck over and read some pages. At quick glance it reads like a screenplay; that’s neither good nor bad, just an observation.
