What Will You Do AFTER the Collapse?
Preparedness Blog ^ | 6/26/12 | PamelaFarms

A lot of like-minded people who think a collapse is coming seem to have some pretty naive ideas as to what they will do after the collapse. They seem to think they’ll be able to pick up a rifle, head out into the woods, and live off the land. If that is your plan I urge you to try it now! Spend 7 days out in the wild bringing your gun, your bug-out bag, and anything else you plan to use to live off the land.

Chances are you won’t like it very much. We are really too used to our current level of technology and shy away from moving back to more “primitive” thinking. This has been a HUGE adjustment for my wife and I. We thought we were pretty tough but discovered that living the life we want is tougher. Every day we try new things and improve on them so when the time comes, we’ll be ready. Not just making “plans” but ready to go.

Alas, dear Kartographer, I will die, probably within 6 months, assuming I have enough food and water.

You see, I am a “senior citizen”, living in one of those high rises designed to help us seniors live out a happy retirement. Everyone here is wonderful, but when the SHTF, there will be no more good food.

Assuming that the water keeps up, that won’t be a problem, but my inability to get thyroid meds will definitely be the end of me.

I do not mind, however. My beloved husband of 45 years died 3 months ago, from Parkinson’s Plus. None of the specialists, including the Mayo Clinic could do anything for him.

He died in my arms, here in our apartment, peacefully. I wish I could find a reason to go on, but without him as part of my daily life, I don’t really care to live.

But, God requires that I wait until He sends the call. So I will.

I miss my husband so much, I hope the call comes soon.

The only people who will be offended will be those who think of themselves as dumbasses.

Hmmm, well I've got a dimwit neighbor with a yapper that could use a little assistance exiting the mortal plane (the punter, not the neighbor). With a breakdown of law and order, I just might assist the little monster on his way.

After? I’m going to Bill Murrays house.

Who's Bill Murray?

I’m trying to be realistic. 6 months worth of food supplies, 2 years of essential prescriptions, good array of home defense tools with lots of lead for each. 6 months of TP, 2 year supply of toothpaste, dental floss, toothbrushes.

I live in a small town, 10 minutes from forests.

At my age, my wife and I are not bugging out. I will live (or die) in my own home. But, if it is the latter, I’m darn sure not leaving this earth alone.

Darlin’, I feel so sad for you. There’s nothing that can be said that will heal your pain. I wish there was. And I admire you for waiting for God.

To those who say you’ve got plenty of ammo, how will you kill those squirrels when you run out of things that go boom?

Of all the preparations one could make, the preparations you've made to be with God are the most important.

Thank you for shinning a light on a path we all shall travel.

So sorry for your loss....45 years is a long marriage! What a blessing that your hubby passed in the peacefulness of your arms. Are you in the NE? Any kids/grands nearby?

Don’t give up, Jacquej! You just gotta keep on keeping on and don’t fold on us. We aren’t spring chickens either; and getting old is certainly not for sissies. Maybe things will hold together until after we leave this mortal coil.

Can you find something natural for thyroid medicine? Mine is blood pressure; and I keep on trying to do everything natural I can to, hopefully, not have to depend on it from now on.

Do what you can where you’re at; and hang in there. Husband’s mother lived to going on 89; so we don’t know what age we’ll live to. My aunt in Texas is going on 87; every time I read or hear about some intruder being shot in Texas, I double check to see if it’s her who did the shooting.

Thanks as always for the ping, Kart.

I’m with ‘Gunner; the tone of the article was condescending at best.

Some of the other linked articles were better, though.

First of all let me express my sympathies for the loss of your husband. I know you miss him terribly and that the challenge of being a senior citizen can be twice as difficult when you are doing it by yourself.

My Bible study is doing a study on all the scriptures that say “in the last day”, “in the latter day”, “in the end time” etc. It is very comforting to read God’s Word as to what will happen. Yes, there will be severe judgment BUT He always puts in His Word of judgment that He will protect, provide, shelter His righteous children. It is a great faith builder to know He will be our provider and protector during these terrible times that are coming.

Steady your heart and your spirit in His Word. Find prayer partners in the building where you live. Someone have their adult children bring a 50 pound sack of rice and flour. Store it in the corner of your bedroom. You’ll be
fine. The Lord has you here for a reason. He will take care of you now.
