How the HELL do you “inadvertently” leave TWO dogs in a car overnight?
Whoever did this needs to be locked in a car in the noon day sun.

why is it if YOU kill a K-9 you will be charges and convicted of killing a COP... where if a cop kills a K-9 it's only a DOG???

As a late career EOD Handler and then Kennel Master, this disheartens me at first blush, second look and even through full disclosure.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand how this could happen regardless of the reporting.
Dogs and handlers are teamed based more on their strong ties than anything else. You do not let this happen to a loved one unless the love and respect was never there.
A true handler and a great canine are only paired when that when those two qualities combine.

“Jeez, I thoght the cops usually just shot dogs. This was slow and painful.”
What is it about police and dogs. And these dogs were trying to HELP them.
At the very least, I’d say that each dog is probably a good 10-15K for training. This needs to be reimbursed.

The really disturbing part is that these idiots have guns and are authorized to USE them.

How horrible that must have been for these two dogs. I’m sad.
To: chrisinoc
Actually, after reading the article, this happened there before; the dog was rushed to the hospital but died from “preexisting issues”. Righhht....like, for example, the inability to survive high levels of heat without water. No doubt, this, also, will be covered up nice and tidy. I really expected better from Texas.

I spent a brief period of time working for a company that built emergency vehicles, including K-9 Units. Some had the ability to start their engines and turn on the air conditioning if it got too hot inside the car.

How the hell does this happen?
I know many police K-9 handlers and their dogs are members of their family. One friend lost his K-9 partner of more than 10 year this week (of old age, the dog had retired to leisure) and he made sure the the dog got an obituary in the newspaper.

If you did that, the courts, animal control, and every animal organizations within 2000 miles would be encircling your home, chanting death threats, demanding prison times.
Of course, cops, like illegal aliens, are a favorite of government, so this was just a simple mistake.

The officers need to be charged with murdering two officers. Anyone else would if they shot them. Plus that’s a ton of money that’s dead now.

I thought dog killing was a favorite LEO past time? Or does that only pertain to civilian dogs?
I figure the cop is getting creative!

“There will be a jackboot licker by in a little while to explain why you or I should be in jail, but the officer shouldn’t, for the same offense.”
You got that right!
It amazes me to watch people get mauled by a police dog. Dogs have several vulnerabilities that will send them yelping and cowering with a quickness. People panic and fall into the fetal position -— first and last mistake.
Still, I’m a dog lover and hate to see them suffer needlessly.

They will likely NOT be waiting for their ‘handlers’ at the Rainbow Bridge... ...except perhaps with a citation pad. So much for ‘Officer Friendly.’

What’s next? Will they even excuse a cop who leaves his own child in an infant seat in a car on a hot summer day and the child dies?
The charge should be murder of a police officer. That’s the exact same charge any non-officer would receive if we were responsible for the death of a police dog.
