The Ryan Pick….Why Democrats Should Be Worried
Flopping Aces | 08-11-12 | Curt

Posted on 08/11/2012 3:05:27 PM PDT by Starman417

Liberals are in attack mode regarding the Ryan pick, as was to be expected of ANY pick Romney chose. Some are doing their best to pin Republican against Republican:

Ryan is the way Romney and his aides escape blame for their now-likely defeat—blame which would have vicious and unrelenting—and pin it in on conservatives instead. With only minor historical revisions, they will be able to tell a story about how Romney was keeping the race close through early August, at which point the party’s conservative darling joined the ticket and sent the poll numbers into steady decline.

"Now likely defeat"

Give me a break.

But John Fund gives five reasons why Democrats should be worried:

First, if Ryan is an extremist and his proposals are so unpopular, how has he won election seven times in a Democratic district? His lowest share of the vote was 57 percent — in his first race. He routinely wins over two-thirds of the vote. When Obama swept the nation in 2008, he carried Ryan’s district by four points. But at the same time, Ryan won reelection with 65 percent of the vote, meaning that a fifth of Obama voters also voted for him.

Ryan has pointed out to me that no Republican has carried his district for president since Ronald Reagan in 1984. “I have held hundreds of town-hall meetings in my district explaining why we have to take bold reform steps, and I’ve found treating people like adults works,” he told me. “All those ads pushing elderly woman off the cliffs don’t work anymore if you lay out the problem.”

Second, Democrats know that Ryan has Reaganesque qualities that make him appealing to independent, middle-class voters. Take the cover story on Ryan that the Isthmus, a radically left-wing Madison, Wis. newspaper, ran on him in 2009. “Ryan, with his sunny disposition and choirboy looks, projects compassion and forcefully proclaims dedication to his district,” the story reported. “And he’s proved he is not unyieldingly pro-corporate, as when he recently joined in condemnation of AIG ‘retention’ bonuses.”

Obama should be very worried.

Ryan can and will speak very clearly about the failures of Obama and his socialist/Marxist agenda.

Romney demonstrated his ability to put country first and make analytically powerful and courageous decisions.

I have never been a Romney fan but...ROMNEY/RYAN 2012!!!

I’m just waiting for the first VP debate, between Biden and Ryan. It’ll be pure pleasure to watch, but almost unfair.

Will Obama dump Biden now?

From the comments I have been listening to on the Dem side today, they are so afraid of Ryan they don’t even do their due diligence about his history.

He graduated from Miami University at Oxford, Ohio, and thus has a connection to Ohio. I have yet to hear any of the Obama puppets make that connection, they are so busy explaining to the rest of us how the choice of Ryan will not deliver any of the swing states to the Republicans.

I think they are so focused on their hatred of anything conservative, their little brains just can handle anything bigger.

Besides they probably think Miami University is in England. Or Florida.

Oh no, they are busily trying to convince themselves that Biden’s experience as a ‘world leader’ (???) will destroy Ryan in a debate.

No mention of Biden’s experience as a gaffe machine.

I don’t think he can, no matter what the excuse it would clearly look like abject fear of Ryan, and losing. Which would contradict the Death Wish pick narrative of the last 10 hours.

The Ryan - Biden debate will be like watching Joe Frazer get in the ring with Alfalfa from the Little Rascles.

Looks more and more that Obama is now going to become with Biden, a “one and done” team. Ryan will tear Biden apart.

Well, I don’t know about the rest of you, but we did pretty well during the Bush years. We were employed, able to save some money (thank goodness, as we are both unemployed now thanks to Obama and my husband is soon to be without health insurance after a heart attack) - paid off our house, watched its value drop like a rock and remain at the bottom during the entire Obama administration -

Yes, I would like to have the Bush years back again, with a few tweaks, of course.

I love the attack ad the Dems put out against Ryan - he apparently will completely destroy every sector of the American population, single handedly. I thought Obama was already doing that.

I suspect he will be accused of killing someone’s wife with cancer, as soon as they can get that ad together.

How much do you think Soptic was paid for his dishonesty? I hope it was a lot, because from now on, all Dem lies should be called ‘Soptics’.

I'm not so sure, not that I'm faulting Ryan but it will be 2 on 1.

I agree- I met an entirely new Romney today- watched his speech live in Manassas and kept wondering where the hell has THIS guy been? Ryan is a terrific choice, he energizes Romney and Romney clearly realizes how this will energize many of us who were - while willing to drag ourselves to vote for him- were doing so grudgingly and because of the fear of four more years of Barry.

This choice and the way these two men conducted themselves today REALLY changes the entire picture.

I mean who knew Mitt Romney was capable of passion? He had it today and his speech was fantastic. I don’t think these two men have plans to preside over America’s decline.

Great comparison!

I love when Obama attacks Ryan’s budget. Does he not understand what a can of worms that opens, for him and his administration?

Where’s your budget, Obama? Oh that’s right, you submitted 2 and not one Dem voted for it. To say nothing of the fact that the main job of the senate, to pass an annual budget, has not been performed for 1000+ days. All dems in the senate should be fired for their atrocious job performance.

Smartest people in the world working in this administration, my a—.

If Romney loses this one, and I don’t think he will, there won’t be a reason for throwing blame back and forth. The game will be forever changed.

The game will be forever changed.

If the US has really reached the tipping point, we'll have some hard choices to make here on FR.

Do we leave for another country? Or try some type of secession plan?

I have a nagging question that I hope some Florida Freeper can answer.

I keep reading that “we’ve lost Fla...omg we’ve lost Fla” with a Ryan pick.

Would the retirees in Fla voted for Romney anyway? A lot (not all) of the older folks I know are Dem because...well..they are Dem and have been their whole lives.

Given the fact that The Won has raided Medicare, the program is on course to self destruct, Ryan’s plan does not affect them and helps the younger folks...why would that be?

I don’t know any Fla Freepers. Maybe some on this thread do that could give them a ping to give me some insight.

Most Americans probably have no idea Obama’s budget got 99 NO votes in the Senate.
