Team Obama's Plan: Send in the Clown and Run Out the Clock

Team Obama’s Plan: Send in the Clown and Run Out the Clock

On Tuesday Crazy Ol’ VP Joe Biden suddenly acquired a southern accent and told voters:

They’re gonna put y’all back in chains.

A normal campaign team would have sent the Vice President to the Cayman Islands to recover from a sudden case of Laryngitis. Obama would have spent the day back-peddling from Biden’s latest proof of incompetence. Instead, the President asked for a sophisticated interpretation of the ”Chains” comment from voters and let Joe run loose in the spotlight. Scarcely had Biden opened his mouth, but pearls of wisdom were rolling off his tongue as he forgot which century he inhabits:

Folks, Where’s it Written We Cannot Lead the World in the 20th Century in Making Automobiles?

Today, national discussion is focused on whether or not Joe Should Go, or how Obama can fail to condemn the “Chains” comment and what similar statements Republicans might have uttered. All of this, instead of looking at one simple fact.

Nothing, or very little, in presidential politics happens by accident. If Vice President Biden was allowed out for a public appearance instead of being strapped in a rusty Apache Helicopter bound for a surprise visit to Afghanistan, it is because the campaign wants him right where he is, doing what he does best, babbling and distracting.

Every day we focus on Biden is a day not spent scrutinizing Obama. Every insane utterance from the Gaffer deflects attention from the Golfer.

The appropriate campaign communications response from Romney-Ryan is simple and was pretentiously offered in yesterday’s post What Team Romney Could Learn from Star Wars.

Stay on Target.

“Target” meaning the core message; articulate the problems and the positive objectives R &R offer to solve the real blunders made by Obama.

Team Obama is using the Vice President to run out the clock, hoping that voters and pundits will waste time separtaing us from November’s election to consider the superficial instead of the substance. Republicans can’t be distracted by the crazy loon running all over the field, but need to concentrate on the recovery plan we have to offer.

I kinda disagree, for this week anyway.

This was the week the Dems had planned for us to spend watching media discussing gaffes and problems with the Veep candidate.

Well, we are. Just not the one they intended.

I say: “Go Crazy Joe!”

This week anyway...

I agree.

To the extent there is risk to the Ryan pick, I think it lies primarily in these first couple of weeks where the RATs try to define him as a guy who wants to kill Granny.

To the extent Biden distracts from that message, I think it only helps the GOP.

“This week anyway...”

Next week it will be some other wild issue, and I think Big Media’s been given the green light to run with any sensational story, just to overshadow any discussion of the messiah at all.

I think they’ve underestimated America’s dissatisfaction with the messiah, but I think someone figures Hussein can win if they keep anything and anyone bigger in the news than Hussein and his attacks on America.

I remember in the debate with Palin ol’ Joe Plugs said “Dick Cheney is the most dangerous vice president in history”. What’s not debatable is Biden is the dumbest vice president in history.

I'm sure Obama is hoping that Biden will distract voters from his (Obama’s) own failures. However, I disagree that Biden’s latest gaffes are part of any strategy. Biden always has been a buffoon and he is not helping Obama in any way right now. It is frightening to think that Biden is one heartbeat away from the Presidency and I believe there are swing voters who feel that way, too.

Of course, I’m gonna agree with you. :)

This isn’t part of the Obama strategy. Their strategy is to destroy Ryan in the week after the announcement - while the attention is focused on the Veep.

The focus is on the Veep pick, Ryan, and simultaneously we have Slow Joe running his gaffe machine very loudly providing a nice contrast to Ryan.

A contrast not in favor of Obama; even he isn’t stupid enough to pick this strategery.

The main reason Obama and the Dems chose Biden (in light of his LONG history of gaffes and stupidity, all the way back to the 80’s)—is to make sure they chose the most stupid-acting white man they could so Obama would always look good. Period.
