NSF Promotes Climate-Change Ed. With $19 Million in Grants
Education Week ^ | Aug 17, 2012 | Erik Robelen

Posted on 08/18/2012 9:41:16 PM PDT by Innovative

Efforts to advance climate-change education in schools and communities are getting a boost from a set of six grants awarded this week by the National Science Foundation, totaling nearly $19 million. The grants will support a number of efforts, including a joint project in Maryland and Delaware to help schools deliver effective and regionally relevant instruction in grades 8-12, and pay for work led by the New England Aquarium to enhance climate-change education in zoos, aquariums, and other settings.

The four other NSF grants include:

-- $5.7 million to Columbia University for a project to help the public understand climate issues in the polar regions, with a focus on "novel educational approaches," including gaming and game-like activities;

-- $2.2 million to the Franklin Institute Science Museum to engage urban residents in community-based learning about climate change and the prospects for enhancing urban quality of life through "informed responses to a changing Earth";

-- $1.1 million to the University of San Diego to develop a new model for educating both the general public and key decisionmakers; and

-- $2.5 million to Pacific Resources for Education and Learning to enhance climate-change education in the Pacific Island region, w+ith involvement of school systems, universities, and others.

“When a representative government lobbies the public, it pits itself against the people it allegedly represents.” - some Freeper. There is a conflict of interest, and a vicious cycle, when the government “educates” the citizenry, so as to support programs that would give the government more power, e.g. to save us from climate change.

How many rounds of .40 S&W hollowpoints has the NSF purchased, just in case anyone is foolish enough to deny manmade global warming?/s;)

I think the acronym is appropriate for all US government agencies- Canadian banks use it as shorthand for “non-sufficient funds”.

Quit with the youth indoctrinations! Leftist politics like a virus has invaded our public schools. We have to figure out how to stop it.

Yep, but this is “educational” funding, not lobbying.

Why do we have a NSF?

Climate change (as scammed into global warming-CO2 panic)is the greatest scam of the 20th-21st centuries thus far.
Since science is known mainly for the populace's ignorance of it, no wonder is it used for propaganda, brainwashing as well as economic and political exploitation.

Here is a wonderful collection of facts that illustrate the sad problem, a famous resignation by an eminent scientist:

Famous Scientist Resigns

here is a small part of its contents...

"It is of course, the global warming scam, with the (literally) trillions of dollars driving it, that has corrupted so many scientists, and has carried APS before it like a rogue wave. It is the greatest and most successful pseudoscientific fraud I have seen in my long life as a physicist. Anyone who has the faintest doubt that this is so should force himself to read the ClimateGate documents, which lay it bare. (Montford’s book organizes the facts very well.) I don’t believe that any real physicist, nay scientist, can read that stuff without revulsion. I would almost make that revulsion a definition of the word scientist."

Its a shame isn’t it?

I expect, and in a way hope JimRob goes to a subscription or advertising base of funding.

And the scam and money laundering continues. They are hell bent on forcing you to believe this lie and if they cant force you, no problem we will continue using your tax dollars to fund other stuff in the name of global warming. What we need is an all out witch hunt in all areas of this deseased government.

regionally relevant instruction

The laws of science are "regionally relevant"?

This is what I keep telling people. This is a great example. $500K here. $1.2M there. FOR BULLCRAP.

This stuff adds up. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY GOVERNMENT IS OUT OF CONTROL.

This makes me madder than hell. Even if it were spent on some stupid building named after a liberal politician, I would complain, but at least we would have a damned building.

THIS BS, teaching about global warming, is like taking our hard earned, sparse tax dollars and lighting them on fire.

We’ve got a lot of people who support the forum. In reality, that’s a really good thing. I’d like to see the fund-raiser over, but there’s a lot to be thankful for here.

Along with advertising comes influence. As for subscriptions, it’s nice for people who can’t afford it to be able to come here and learn.

Enough people who come here and use the forum, do the right thing to help keep it going. I think we could do it a little faster, but that’s my only beef.

I would like to see JimRob clear a hundred grand plus from FR. Free lurking and $10/year posting privilege may be the ticket.
