Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain that San Franciscans reamed last month, has given the gay marriage movement a few more potential Bay Area locations to stage future kiss-ins.
According to media outlets, the Atlanta-based chain bought property in Novato in Marin County this past month with hopes of opening a new restaurant soon, and it has other plans to expand to the East Bay.
Naturally, this news has left a bad taste in the mouths of the LGBT community.
Stuart Gaffney, media director of MarriageEquality USA, told SF Weekly that he wasn't confident the fast-food chain would thrive in this neighborhood.
"I think restaurant customers in Marin County will keep in mind that Chick-fil-A takes their profits and ... funnels them into their charitable arms" for organizations that fight equal rights for gay people, he said.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Rolf, executive director of the San Francisco LGBT Center, encouraged the heartburn-inducing eatery to "rethink their corporate policies in opening a business here in the Bay Area" -- an area, which, she pointed out, has a wildly different demographic than its Atlanta base.
The deep-fried chicken controversy began when the company's CEO, Dan Cathy, admitted his fast-food chain operated on biblical values and openly opposed same-sex marriage. This infuriated gay rights advocates across the nation, including San Francisco where Mayor Ed Lee publicly snubbed the restaurant, saying it was not welcome here. Protesters called for boycotts and organized kiss-ins in front of the Fairfield location, just 40 miles from San Francisco.
As it turns out, the fried chicken company scoffed at his threat, and took a 20-mile leap toward San Francisco. And it doesn't plan on stopping there: Chick-fil-A has its eye on locations in Walnut Creek and Mountain View, too, according to media outlets.
Chick-fil-A has over 1,600 restaurants nationwide. Fifty-two of these are in California, but only one is currently located near the Bay Area, according to the company's website.
LOL, they’re sticking their thumb in Ed Lee’s eye.
This article says it “left a bad taste in their mouths”. Ug!
These politicians stand up for gay rights and insult everyone else and keep getting re-elected. Does San Francisco have more gay voters than straight voters? Doe San Francisco have more chicken haters than chicken lovers?
Even for a San Francisco writer this seems a little weird. An entire community giving a restaurant chain a rim job and then noticing a bad taste in the mouth of the community. Maybe the writer is just making fun of gays and they don't realize it.
Last time I checked, Chick-fil-a was not “anti-gay-marriage.” The company’s chairman was pro-family and supported a Christian pro-family organization - with his own money, not company money or resources.
In other words, another lie from the main-stream media.
Before this broo-ha-ha, CFA was barely on my radar as a place my sister’s ate at occasionally.
Now I want to go there every day.
I have never seen ONE commercial for CFA on tv.
When they open, they should put a poster of Obama in the window, quoting his 2008 election statement on supporting hetero marriages.
most black churches don’t believe in “gay marriage” either. Maybe black churches should be banned.
I went to Chick Fil A today and I tell you right now if I were opening a business, the first thing I would do is hire some fags to demonstrate against me. That place was rocking.
I don't either. But then, I haven't had a t.v. for years.
But I see their billboard ads everywhere.
If Chick Fil-A is “the anti-gay marriage chain”, then is, I dunno, KFC the “pro-sodomy chain”? How come it doesn’t work the other way around?
There was one at Northgate Mall in San Rafael back in the 80’s-90’s, but it eventually closed. So Marin has already had its first encounter with the Evil Homophobic Empire. :)
and i always thought it tasted like fish. guess it does taste like chicken.
They should be used to that....
I’ve never had a Chick-Fil-A sandwich, but can’t wait to try one. Chick-Fil-A bought the Carl’s Jr. not too far from me (in Novato), but they’re planning to lease it to Carl’s for the next year or two.
The poll on the Novato Patch was heavily against CFA yesterday, today it’s about even. You have to have a Patch or Facebook account to vote it the poll.
Mayor Led Ee: "Closest #mosque to Fran Sancisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer."
“Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain that San Franciscans reamed last month”
Interesting word choice...
Even better. LOL
