The Foolish, Spiritually Blind Richard Dawkins

God’s Word tells us about the famous atheist and prominent member of the church of evolution, Richard Dawkins. Of course, Dawkins is not mentioned by name, but the Lord speaks plainly about people like him throughout the Bible. In one example, King David declares in two separate Psalms, “The fool has said in his heart there is no God.” By this definition of a fool, Richard Dawkins is certainly one, because he has made a big name for himself over the years by writing and speaking against the existence of God.

On Sunday, editors of the Blaze published a report of an interview Richard Dawkins gave to the pornographic rag, Playboy magazine. In it, Dawkins tried to outdo himself in pouring derision on those of us who know the Lord and His salvation. There is no need to read the entire Playboy interview, because the Blaze excerpts are enough to demonstrate Dawkins’ darkened thinking.

Dawkins said that he believes the existence of God is about as likely as the existence of the tooth fairy. He also stupidly declares that Jesus may not even have existed on earth at all, as the Blaze reports:

“The evidence he existed is surprisingly shaky,” he told Playboy. “The earliest books in the New Testament to be written were the Epistles, not the Gospels. It’s almost as though Saint Paul and others who wrote the Epistles weren’t that interested in whether Jesus was real.”

“Even if he’s fictional, whoever wrote his lines was ahead of his time in terms of moral philosophy,” he added.

“Whoever wrote His lines”? Talk about a wild and goofy conspiracy theory! Dawkins is actually suggesting that men of the First Century may have created a fictional character named Jesus, wrote amazing lines for him to say, and then proceeded to die horrible, violent deaths rather than denounce their “fiction.” This guy Dawkins would work to climb a tall tree to believe a dumb lie, when it is much easier to stand on the ground and believe the simple truth.

For Dawkins to claim that evidence for Jesus’ existence is “shaky” is to show his own ignorance. There is ample, recorded evidence that Jesus did indeed exist, and I am not talking about biblical evidence, although the biblical evidence is overwhelming and historically accurate.

One online collection of non-biblical, historical sources cites numerous Roman, Jewish and Greek historians who lived in the century after Jesus’ crucifixion who had knowledge of His existence.

As the piece states:

This article will show that not only is there historical evidence (from secular sources as well as Christian) that Jesus Christ was real and existed, but also that Jesus Christ is the most documented and historically verifiable figure in antiquity.

But, that is not what this is about, is it? Dawkins is not concerned that his statements about Jesus’ existence are verifiably false. It does not matter to Dawkins. His point is just to denigrate those who love the Lord, and Dawkins will not let historical facts get in the way of his agenda.

Dawkins goes on to offer more hell-inspired, cringe-worthy examples of his deluded thinking, as the Blaze notes,

Dawkins called the idea that “Jesus died for our sins” “barking mad.” At the center of his angst over the salvation story is the notion that God found the need to torture himself to the point of death. He called the entire story “a truly disgusting idea.”

Richard Dawkins is a man to be pitied. We can see how detestable his words are, but behind those words is the saddest story in the world—the story of someone who rejects the God of the universe and the awesome gift of salvation our risen Lord offers us through His perfect sacrifice for our sins on the cross. That is the only thing that matters in this life, the ultimate question: whether we will turn to the Lord and be saved, or die in our sins, eternally separated from the love of God.

Another place in the Bible that speaks of men like Dawkins is in Paul’s second letter to the Thessalonian church, where he is warning us not to be deceived or alarmed by false reports that the Day of the Lord has come. In speaking of the last days and the time of the revelation of the son of perdition (the Antichrist), Paul, by the Holy Spirit, states,

And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Richard Dawkins might be surprised to learn—if he were able to discern truth from lies—that he is under a delusion sent by God, because he first rejected God’s revealed truth. This makes the title of one of Dawkins’ books ring with irony: The God Delusion.

Elsewhere in the Bible, in Romans chapter 1, we see men like Dawkins again under the spotlight of God’s Word:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

All men are without excuse, because God’s hand is clearly seen in all of creation. Men like Dawkins fancy themselves brilliant men of reason and knowledge, but without knowledge of God as the foundation, all “reason” and “knowledge” will be fatally flawed.

In speaking of the godless fool, Dave Hunt of The Berean Call ministry, in his column titled “In Defense of the Faith” writes,

The Bible unapologetically declares, “The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God.” ... Any thinking human being must agree with this pronouncement. Only a fool could believe that the universe came into existence by chance. Just one living cell in the human body is, according to Nobel Prize winner Linus Pauling, “more complex than New York City.” To imagine that life itself (which is a mystery beyond the capability of science to fathom) and the incredible complexity of matter that sustains life could happen by chance is absurd.

Despite his venomous attitude toward God and those who believe in Him, there is still hope for Richard Dawkins, as long as he remains alive. The Lord can melt the stone heart of even the most viciously rebellious person, and that is what it will take to save Richard Dawkins—for the Lord to melt his heart and open his spiritual eyes and ears to the Truth of God’s Word and the marvelous saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Dawkins is like a man blind from birth arguing passionately that there is no such thing as the color red.

If God does not exist, then the Son of God could not have existed on earth either. Right, Mr.Dawkins? So why then go on to discuss His possible existence?
Who in his right mind would create a story featuring a man who would claim to be the Son of God to the point of allowing himself to undergo the most brutal of unnecessary deaths? Who would want to hear such a story? What possible purpose would it serve? What moral could it teach? What goal could it possibly have? There is no rational reason for creating such a lie, much less dying for it. Yet thousands have died for it; thousands more will. Are they all dying for nothing Mr. Dawkins?
