We always hear about musicians who are upset about their musical legacy being hijacked by a politician. Can't say I'd see Frank happy about THIS era of Democrats.

I was out of the room when I heard the phrase ‘savage disparities’ and knew it was Cory Booker, mayor of Newark. He spoke in favor of the platform. He had the kind of speech that you really agree with if you really agree with him. He is an obviously bright man who respects the role of business and is considered by reformers to be on the right side of the school reform debate. He has a gift for memorable phrases and seems highly literate in the quick if shallow way of modern persons. A lot of people I like like him. To me he always seems faintly fraudulent.
The headline, for me, at 6pm in the East: this floor has been WHIPPED. It has been instructed. They have been told to look alert and they do. They have been told to bring the babies and they did. They’ve broken out into chants of “USA! USA!”, just like the Republicans. This is a hotter floor than the Republicans had, it’s more varied racially and ethnically and also more colorful – more people dressed in red, white and blue, shoes to hat, more people in crazy donkey hats, more wearing dozens of buttons. They look happy to be there, and a lot of them looked grateful, like it was their first convention.
The platform passed with a bellow of unanimous Ayes, not a peep for No. The Democrats show greater affection for eachother on the podium as they walk on and off the stage, as if they’re members of a team and the team is big. Man this is a well drilled group.

So the Republican party today is “vulgar” according to Peggy Noonan:
In the end the Palin candidacy is a symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics. It’s no good, not for conservatism and not for the country. And yes, it is a mark against John McCain, against his judgment and idealism.
Peggy Noonan says that the conservative movement left her thus forcing her to vote for a leftist, if not socialist, this election.

Peggy Noonan has never much cared for Sarah Palin. In 2008, she deemed Palin’s presence on the Republican ticket “political bullshit,” and later noted the former Alaska governor seemed “out of her depth in a shallow pool” during the campaign. Now Palin has riled her again, with her observation on Fox News that Ronald Reagan was “an actor” before becoming president.
Needless to say, this isn’t sitting well with Noonan, who so eloquently praised Reagan’s feet in What I Saw At The Revolution (”It was a beautiful foot, sleek. Such casual elegance and clean lines. But not a big foot, not formidable, maybe even a little...frail. I imagined cradling it in my arms, protecting it from unsmooth roads...”). In her Wall Street Journal column today, Noonan makes it clear she feels no such affection for Palin, or her tootsies.

One hardly knows where to start. Peggy Noonan used to disdain Northeastern elite snots who looked down their noses at the great unwashed, people like Ronald Reagan. Now it seems that living too long in Manhattan has turned Noonan into what she used to loathe.
Sarah Palin’s point was obviously not that Reagan was “just an actor.” Her point was that people who hated him would use that fact to belittle him, ignoring the record of accomplishment that Noonan so eloquently relates.
Noonan is also ignoring Palin’s solid record of accomplishment. Small-town city councilwoman. Small-town mayor. Energy regulator. Governor. Vice presidential candidate. And, as the midterms proved, Christine O’Donnell and Sharron Angle aside, a political force of nature.
Peggy Noonan, by the way, is a little confused about Sarah Palin’s media career. It is her daughter, Bristol Palin, who is performing on “Dancing With the Stars,” and not Sarah herself. Palin and her family are about to appear in an eight-part travel documentary about Alaska, something one suspects that the Gipper would have approved of.
When Noonan calls Sarah Palin a “nincompoop,” it is without apparent irony. If she had called Palin an “amiable dunce,” as someone once called Reagan, the irony would have been there even for Noonan herself to see.

TRUE!!!!!!!!!!!! She is the one thing my VERY liberal mother & I can both agree on! Her voice is so obnoxious, she is completely enchanted w/ herself. YUCK!
Well, to be honest, if I have a choice of music I get to hear, it would be Steppenwolf over Sinatra. Could tolerate Sinatra I guess over rap. As a rule, anything before 1970 is good. Though no Guy Lombardo please.
The day old Peg called Sarah Palin vulgar was the end. She went with Obama and I have not forgotten.
Yeah I watched part of the opening with the volume turned way down and thought when I saw the children walk out they were about to sing Barack Hussein Obama MMM MMM MMM!! LOL
