The American public has been treated to the quadrennial celebration of the victory of banality over genius. Both major political parties have massed in a revelry of lipservice to the founding principles of this once great nation, as their very existence (in modern form) stands as a paradigm of exactly those base instincts of human nature that the Founders sought to guard against.
The Constitution was set in place as an affirmation of the Divinely endowed nature of Man. Understood by definition and implication was the responsibility of citizenship that came hand-in-glove with the autonomy of self-governance.
The nation grew and prospered for many years, reliant only on the work ethic, the sanctity of private property and the attendant generosity of a prosperous and ethical people. Of course, there were the mean spirited, the Scrooges and the Robber Barons. But their stories stand out as bad examples, rather than as the norm of American life.
We have been treated (and will continue to be for the following two plus months) to a parade of looters, many of whom have never actually had to produce anything of value, promising the vast underclass (which has supplanted the Great Middle Class) that they are the ones who will confiscate that which they did not make and supply this purloined wealth to those who also have produced nothing except an appetite for empty calories and toys for empty minds. (Insert here a mental image. A mother of several children from a random selection of "baby-daddies" with costly fingernails and hair extensions feeding her brood at McDonald's with an EBT card while texting on her Obamaphone.)
The choice in the national elections has been reduced (for her) to a question of who will procure the most goodies from your income and (for you) who will hurt you the least while doing it.
Neither party will offer candidates who would dare suggest that perhaps personal responsibility should come into play (on her part) or that what you own is somehow intrinsically yours (on your part.) Already one of the candidates, Paul Ryan, has been excoriated in the press for the mere suggestion that he might have found an idea or two with some merit in the works of Ayn Rand.
So until the Tea Party (or some other insurgent group) has had a chance to fundamentally transform the GOP, true Constitutional Conservatives are without a real voice in national politics. That is not to say that we are not a group to be reckoned with. We are however a group whose battle plan for this election must be one of expediency rather than idealism.
Many of us felt used and betrayed time and again as candidates with seemingly conservative credentials fell to the Romney Primary Juggernaut. Some of us have come to think of Willard as an enemy, only slightly less odious than The Enemy residing in the White House. We've been looking for ways to gin up enthusiasm for the upcoming campaign, but a bitter taste remains. How are we going to reconcile our conscience with what must be done to unseat The Usurper?
Let's take a moment to look at a lesson from history. I do not particularly like the often quoted saw "the enemy of my enemy is my friend." That would indicate that a basis for friendship might exist outside of the influence of the common enemy. I prefer to think of the enemy's enemies as just that - enemies. But enemies can also be useful allies.
Think for a moment how the WWII campaign in Europe would have gone had it not been for the Eastern Front. Countless Russians gave their lives and in so doing, strained the German resources to the breaking point. While the most perceptive of the Allied military leaders, like General Patton made good use of the Russian Front they also harbored no illusion that this somehow transformed the Communists into soul mates for the US. We could take a lesson here and remember that while today's tactic may be to use the vehicle of the Romney candidacy to uproot the greater evil, when it is all said and done, we'll drink that victory toast with both eyes open, staring in the face of our ally as "one son-of-a-bitch to another."
So throughout this orgy of Newspeak and Doublethink, keep your eyes on the prize. Give Romney his victory, and give him along with it a Congress filled with uncompromising idealists ...(Oh, wait ... first there would have to be some ...) Well, give him the most right leaning Congress possible.
And keep a close eye and a tight leash on President Marshall "Willard" Zhukhov.
The above thoughts are an admitted rationalization to justify what I for one feel I must do.
I live in Indiana, a state normally locked in the "Red" column. A state that was lost to The Usurper in the last cycle. I cannot go to the polls and take the chance that it could happen again.
This is the only way I can look at the situation and do what I feel I must.

Just once, I'd like to see a real Conservative get GOP support for Potus, instead of someone who just didn't suck as bad as their opponent...
Or will the Republican party's presidents ever go down in history as having not been as crappy as the other guy would have been?

I have this feeling, way down deep, that if a real Conservative came out, no-holds-barred and did not compromise or equivocate on *anything* that the resulting electoral landslide would stand the world on its head.
Unfortunately, people like that rarely even enter the process, must less get to the national level.
With a clear choice between continued Socialism (totalitarianism) and a return to founding principles of liberty, I think it would be a tremendous victory for Liberty.
However, I should not underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers, nor underestimate the propensity for sloth and greed inherent in those who have come to enjoy the comfort of their chains. Sadly, so many would abdicate the responsibilities inherent in their Liberty for the false security of serving a fickle master.
For some of us, this is almost a life and death election.
Imagine watching your 69 year old husband, who’s had a 3x bypass, breaking his back 16 hours a day just to keep things afloat while he watches the business HE BUILT for 20 years going down the drain thanks to Obeyme.
We have people call and express great interest in buying kits..and then they say “But we’re gonna wait and see what happens in November.”
If that is not evidence that Obeyme is killing small businesses, I don’t know what is.
I’m positive we’re not the only ones hearing the same thing.
He’s worked like a dog since he was 15 to make a life for himself and I know this is not how he envisioned spending his ‘golden years’.
It’s killing him and by extension, me.

You have it backward. It’s not conservatives needing GOP support for Potus. It’s GOP needing (unified) conservatives if you want to see a conservative Republican as a nominee. Romney being the nominee is not the sign of his campaign success. It’s the sign of conservatives’ failure.

An exceptionally well written article and you and I apparently have reached not only the same conclusions, but have employed the same basic analogy. In World War II, indeed we were faced with a ‘lesser of two evils’ choice, one (and the choice we made) was to send lend lease to Moscow, make Joe Stalin our ally, not because we approved of or condoned his brutal oppression of the Russian people, not because we had suddenly become sympathetic to the Communist ideology he represented, but because he had the only viable military force capable of engaging the Nazis and prevailing. The other choice was to tell Uncle Joe to just fend for himself, no lend lease or assistance would be forthcoming, and you can be pretty damn sure that the Swastika would have ended up flying from Dunkirk to Vladivostok, and very likely over Britain as well.
The conservative ideological purists, who somehow believe that 0bama and Romney are no different and that they are both to be equally shunned and abhorred, would have very likely advised Churchill, Roosevelt and the rest of the allies that we could “never” lower ourselves to associate with such Communist filth as Stalin’s Soviet Union, and then they would have been the first ones soiling their panties and running in circles crying like babies when the Nazis consolidated their gains in Eurasia and began sizing up America for a German version of ‘Operation Olympic’.
I don’t like Romney. Never did. But if Romney & Ryan are the only thing standing between another 4 years of that miserable Kenyan bastard in the White House, I’ll pull that lever for the GOP on November 6th, and I’ll pull it with gusto. The most urgent task is to DEFEAT 0BAMA, and as our Founder said in his similar statement of August 26th, “we’ll deal with Romney and the RINOs later”.

Just before clicking on your terrific post I was reminded, once again, why??? is Romney a necessary and valid alternative as he declared support for elements of ObamaCare “®” while pretending he isn’t above throwing out the baby with the bath water.
Once again, I am compelled to ask “Why Romney?”
This jackwagon reveals his lack of compelling alternative with every passing day and opening of his slack jaw.
This has been the moving screen for the liberalization of the GOP, and candidates therefrom who are not overwhelmingly Conservative backed have been increasingly leftist.
Compare what we have with Barry Goldwater, for instance.
When 'icons' of the GOP are as liberal as Christie or have the track record Mitt does, or McCain, it seems the GOP is either trying to throw the election or is hiding behind the shield of being the 'lesser evil', which is the same reason anyone on this site might even be contemplating voting for Mitt--no one wants Obama back.
The security that the GOP has is that Conservatives, generally speaking, won't stay home on election day or vote third party in order to keep the Socialist out.
It has worked for them, although last time, despite having Sarah Palin on the ticket, it did not work very well.
Is the Liberalization of the Republican Party the fault of the Conservatives? No more than a well-dressed woman is to blame for being raped.
It is the Liberals within the party who have hijacked it, declared themselves hyphenated conservatives in order to disguise their liberalism, and used Conservatives as a ready-made voting base which has no other alternative except to "throw their votes away" or stay home.
That contemptuous treatment alone should be enough to indicate to Conservatives we really have no home in the GOP, we're left to stay in the barn, and only get to be in the big house come election year.
The Democrats aren't the only ones with a plantation.
Short of a party coup, or a new Conservative Party to rally around (one that isn't immediately Alinsky'd as a bunch of wackos or dingats), that isn't going to change.
The process by which we ended up with Romney as the nominee seemed like one of those nightmares where you're trying to run from the bad guys, but your feet feel like lead weights. We watched helplessly as the closest things to conservatives were eliminated one by one, until the liberal with the 'R' after his name was left. Now, this donkey says he'll keep parts of Obamacare--already breaking his vow to repeal the vile thing.
Of course, our country is in deep trouble. Of course, we will again hold our nose when we vote.
So, that's why I said you have it backward. The problem is not in the GOP (alone). Conservatives need to clean their acts and stop blaming others for their own failure. Playing victim wouldn't bring them anywhere. Start recruiting process soon and stick together behind him/her. This, of course, assumes there is a homogeneous conservative block, which I start to suspect, there isn't.
Sorry for my response brother but, I have no reason to support Romney.
I am in a state that will decisively go Obama and since Mitt isn’t make a starkly difference case for his vision as President, I have no reason to vote for him.
My vote doesn’t count so I will be writing in Sarah or Newt.
May be a coin toss but, either way, doesn’t materially affect the vote in KahLeeFawNeeYuh...
