June 4, 2009

"I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear."

Not Catholicism. Not Judaism. Only Islam.

Instead, they overlap, and share common principles — principles of justice and progress; tolerance and the dignity of all human beings.

I also know civilization's debt to Islam.

More recently, tension has been fed by colonialism that denied rights and opportunities to many Muslims...

Anti-colonialism, you say?

Michael Totten

The Obama administration’s Department of Justice official Edward Perez, who is the assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division, refuses to say that his department won’t attempt to criminalize blasphemy in the future.

The video:

Where is this headed? To this:

What an American President should be doing is to be telling the Islamic world that the US honors free speech and it is guaranteed by our Constitution and we have no intention of ending that freedom nor matter who is offended by it.

.
Too late — I recall an American president declaring that Islam is a ROP during a State of the Union address and that statement has never been retracted or modified. I also recall that members of all three branches of government went wild with applause.

How much more official can such a statement be?

That’s non sequitur. One has nothing to do with the other.

Well any self-admitted devout Christian has protecting Islam from negative stereotypes as their highest priority.

Just like any devout Christian would agree the sweetest sound they’ve ever heard is the Muslim screeching call to prayer.

I’ve been to Indonesia, Malaysia, and spent some time in the sandbox. If you haven’t heard it, it is beautiful.

What’s more, a part of you thinks, “The entire society is putting their God first, and it is not only acceptible to do so, it is expected.”

It’s frightening thought, because it means they have a chance of winning.

I believe that Islam isn’t a religion, but a form of government, and as such doesn’t enjoy the same freedoms under 1A that other true religions do. If I take the Lord’s name in vain, for example, I would not expect for officials of the government to come for me to incarcerate and try me of a capital crime. In Islam, that is exactly the case, and as such, that isn’t a religion.

Any theocracy that cannot leave some of the opprobium for man’s actions to the judgement of the god leading that country doesn’t have a religion at its center. It has instead a man, or a few men, who have substituted their judgement for their maker’s judgement.

The perfect example is Judaism in the time of Christ. Islam is just the latest example.

Don’t you find it odd that the US has to explain to a “peaceful” religion that it honors free speech that is guaranteed by our Constitution and that we have no intention of ending that freedom?

“Peaceful” (and Islam is NOT peaceful) does not mean “recognizes basic freedoms.”

While Bush seemed to believe that whole ROP nonsense, I don’t see him apologizing to them for our freedom of speech, though he may remind the world that that is the case here in the U.S. It can be expected of people to understand or at least accept, regardless of how peaceful they are.

I have heard it. I cannot stand to hear it. It grates on me like fingers on a chalk board.
