U.S. House passes Buffett Rule Act, which would allow rich liberals to voluntarily pay higher taxes

U.S. House passes Buffett Rule Act, which would allow rich liberals to voluntarily pay more taxes

The Washington Times reports:

The House on Wednesday passed Republicans’ own version of the Buffett Rule, which allows wealthy Americans to voluntarily pony up to reduce the deficit.

The bill, labeled the Buffett Rule Act, passed by voice vote, meaning Democrats and Republicans agreed with it. Under the legislation, which would still need Senate approval, taxpayers could check a box on their taxes and send in a check for more than they owe to the IRS.

“If Warren Buffett and others like him truly feel they’re not paying enough in taxes, they can use the Buffett Rule Act to put their money where their mouth is and voluntarily send in more to pay down the national debt, rather than changing the entire tax code to inflict more job-killing tax hikes on hard-working Americans,” said Rep. Steve Scalise, the Louisiana Republican who wrote the bill.

This is fantastic! I hope the Senate passes it, and the President signs it.

Of course we don’t actually need this new law to prove that there are a lot of rich, liberal hypocrites out there, because I already proved it when I wrote the following blog post:

The following rich liberals have all used legal tax shelters to legally lower their taxes.

Time for Buffy to put his money where his big mouth is. Let’s go Buff! Time to pay your “fare share” for your ride on the backs of “the poor victims”.

They always have been able to.

The IRS has an address to send the money to.

To lazy to cut a check? the IRS won’t care if you skip some legal deductions and pay to much.

This bill is/was a waste of time. Reid will kill it anyways.

Is there NOTHING (dufunding Obama care, defunding the epa) the house could be doing right now?

I know about those other things. But the bill is not a waste of time, because it makes a point and exposes the hypocrisy of rich liberals.

I love it. Anyone with any sense knows that people can avoid (not evade) taxes in a multitude of ways.
If they believe that raising taxes on the wealthy will increase revenue, just look at Italy. It will be no different here.

I would love to see Dingy Harry and butt boy Barry pass on this in election year. Especially with all those loud mouth limousine liberals saying they need to be taxed more.

Here’s your chance boys and girls, anti up.

Bravo to the Gentleman from Lousianna.

Didn’t Massachusetts try an optional higher income tax rate? And fewer than 1000 people paid it?

Yes, John Kerry chose the Lower Rate. I believe the top Rate was 5%, but the Evil Rich could choose to pay a higher Rate of 7%.

I guess back then he didn't have an expensive enough Yacht to hide in Rhode Island.

Huh? Last time I checked the IRS won’t send back unsolicited checks.

This law is a waste of paper. Except that it probably has a bunch of riders about bridges in Idaho and how long tongue depressers are allowed to be at minute clinics. In which case it is worse than a waste.

Make that point by holding on of their endless press conferences.

Only congressmen could possibly make congress less relevant.

All they have to do is say it was unnecessary. Which it is.
