Never argue with an idiot because they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.
I would doubt this conversaton actually happened the way it is written. Nobody talks that way on the phone. But I guess it’s possible a caller might stay on to persuade you — if so though, I wouldn’t expect them to say what is quoted here.
I got a call asking for help with the Obama campaign in Virginia, and I said no. They asked who I was voting for, and I said Romney (because I’m not stupid and I really want Obama not only to LOSE, but to get beat in the popular vote). She then said “we should take you off the phone list then, right? And I said thank you.
When a liberal calls Rush, and Rush starts asking questions, they never answer them, they push their points. That’s another thing that is remarkable about the conversation as it is transcripted here (is it really transcripted? I doubt there was a recording so it’s probably more from memory, or like Obama’s book accounts of his life). The caller keeps answering the questions, and never really tries to push back.
Most remarkable is the her response wasn’t a constant stream of “But Romney does this”, or “Romney does that”.
If someone told me they were not voting for my candidate, but also weren’t voting for the real opposition, I would take that as an opportunity to exploit the clear dislike of my opponent that the respondent has, and try to convince them that they shouldn’t throw their vote away. I don’t see any sign of that in the caller’s responses.
She could have been any race. I did not detect anything about her race. I guess you say that she “sounded white,” but such a statement might be showing bias on my part. I did not detect any accents or particular dialects. She could have been one-quarter each white, black, Asian, and native American, for all I could tell.
Is this insanity? Is it insanity when large numbers of educated people subscribe to it?
Whenever someone says to me, “There are no absolutes. You can never be 100% certain of anything,” I always respond by asking them, “Are you sure?”
Her age had nothing to to do with. There are plenty of high school (and younger) people who never talk the way she did.
You can’t reason somebody out of a position they didn’t use reason to arrive at.
When I was very young (my 1st time voting) I proudly voted Perot because he wasn't a politician. I learned my lesson the hard way and I will never forget it! I still have my Ross Perot button as a painful reminder.
I am supporting Romney/Ryan because it is a sane, logical, practical exercise in self defense! I am under attack from the Obama regime, and I won't waste my vote this time.
I understand why some people here are determined to stand on principles and refuse to vote Romney. The reality is they are “Cutting off their nose to spite their face” (self-destructive over-reaction to a problem in a way that would damage oneself more than the object of one’s anger).
Some time ago, I received a different Obama campaign phone call from someone who readily agreed with me that Obama had done all of things that I had said he had done. This earlier caller was clearly thinking for herself, and was not in “robocall” mode. She admitted to having reservations about Obama, but thought that he was better than Romney. Not all of these callers are mindless idiots.
Wow! That's a beautifully simple piece of logic! I am totally going to use that. Thanks Fnord!
guaranteed to set liberals a-fuming
As i said in the very beginning, this is not an exact transcript, as I did not record the call. Instead, this is my memory of what was said. I agree with you that the real call was not exactly like this. But this is how I best remember it.
The called sounded “educated” but not truly educated.
That is an excellent point!
