Escalation. No real detail except this from Reuters:
TURKEY SAYS HAS STRUCK TARGETS IN SYRIA IN RESPONSE TO MORTAR STRIKE ACROSS BORDER - STATEMENT FROM PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE
This came after a Syrian mortar killed five Turks today.
Turkey has contacted the United Nations and the Nato military alliance after Syrian shells killed five people in a Turkish town near the border between the two countries. The shells exploded after being fired into Akcakale from Tall al-Abyad in Syria, where forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad are trying to put down an 18-month-old insurgency.
Somewhere Obama is meeting with Valerie Jarrett trying to figure out who to apologize to first
I think safe to say Bashar Assad never saw Midnight Express the movie
No biggie, just another bump in the road
Watch Bambi say we need to come to the aid of Turkey in order to help da brotherhood
Well that will be hard to defend when his own ambassador went missing after an attack and he hopped aboard a plane for a fund raiser in Vegas.
Here I thought they’d been slacking off. It’s been HOURS since someone in the ME blew something/someone up...
“Witness the Soviets and China in the 1960s becoming so hostile they fought a small-scale war, while we mistakenly still bought into the “International Communist Conspiracy” centrally directed from Moscow.”
Anatoliy Golitsyn, a former KGB who defected to the West, said such splits were strategic. Part of an overall “sissors” strategy against the West. While there were real splits within the communist system, the fake ones were the ones that were the most dramatic and public.
Thinks this will get him off the golf course? Oh wait, he was practicing for the debate tonight in the very place he told us not to spend our money in.
WWJHD?
Oil is down big today on the news of the Iranian currency crisis.
My calculations must have been lacking. Was counting something going BOOM about every fifteen minutes in the middle east. Thanks, do not want to have the math wrong. Hear a math professor went nuts when forced to figure zer0’s chances of reelection. Late Breaking. One can now figure out the chances.
Israel had ties to Turkey, just as they had ties to Egypt. Even though these regimes are now Islamic, the Generals who worked with Israel all these years are still around.
Would not suprise me if the Mossad is stirring up some stuff. Get rid of more Syrian equipment and get it off the border.
There are no permanent alliances within Islam, not even many currently reliable ones. “The enemy of my enemy is my friend” is about as Orwellian a pronouncement that can be made. In the context taken from “1984”, there was always a three-sided engagement going on. The deadly enemy of one day becomes the ally the next, and the news reports, together with all the histories and archives, are immediately changed accordingly. All the old documents are dropped into the “memory hole”, then the new version is immediately inserted into all the records.
“6079 Smith W”, known as Winston Smith, whose job is to make these corrections for the Ministry of Truth, is a “good” member of the Outer Party. Winston and his secret lover, Julia, come in contact with O’Brien, a member of the Inner Party, but supposedly secretly a member of The Brotherhood, a resistance movement.
Needless to say, Winston ends up being betrayed by O’Brien, on every level, estranged forever from Julia, and a miserable wreck of his former self, but strangely, never executed.
Middle East “politics” is an internecine weaving and breaking of alliances, and never having a clear vision of the rightness or justice of any opinion, or of anyone to be certain of their intentions.
So to say somebody is one one side or the other, in Syria, is to seize the whirlwind.
Their idea of an “election” is “last man standing”.
Hey Monk better photoshop Bashar Assad as one of drug dealer in Midnight express the movie this going get hairy soon LOL!
Thanks therightliveswithus.
there are a lot of Christians in Syria.
some, fled there when the “Arab Spring” took over other countries.
...they are being forced out of cities that the “rebels” control.
so i’m not having fun watching this.
Just as seeing the persecution of Coptic Christians,
under the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.
Fighting muslims mean less muslims. Less muslims means less muslims to persecute Christians. I see Turkey v. Syria as win/win.
