My open letter to Congressman Devin Nunes
X / XIV / MMXII | pansgold

Posted on 10/14/2012 2:00:18 AM PDT by pansgold

TO THE HONORABLE CONGRESSMAN DEVIN NUNES

Sunday, October 14, 2012

Dear Sir,

As your constituent and as a registered voting Republican I am sending you this letter to confirm the telephone call I made to your Washington D.C. office last week.

I expressed concern and even anger at the high price of gasoline and demanded that the congress in the interest of national security, nationalize all oil refining in the United States and use Army reservists to take-over and run them. Refining should be under the direct control of the government and in particular, the Army Corp of Engineers.

The Army Corp of Engineers already controls 100% of national hydroelectric energy produced by control of dams and waterways.

I believe the government should now control oil and regulate the value thereof much as it does the price of gold.

Nationalization of oil and gas refineries will have a number of desired effects.

1.) Reduce the price of gasoline and diesel fuel needed to move products. 2.) Reduce the price of store products with reduced transportation costs. 3.) Provide a standard fuel grade for all 50 states. 4.) Regulate the amount of exported oil and fuel.

By standardizing fuel grades nationally, fuels can now be transported interstate without blend restrictions or seasonal state adjustments.

Any state wishing to tinker with the fuel blend must then do so at their own cost and have their own way to blend and distribute their own product. Congress should make a law declaring no state shall import or export across their state line any modified fuel. In short, California couldn’t supply Los Angeles, much more the entire state with blended fuel. That’s their states right and let the voters deal with those in state government for fuel shortages and high prices.

The government now controls and regulates offshore oil leasing, all oil drilling on federal lands and waters, nuclear energy, hydroelectric energy, fuel emission standards, fuel mileage standards, interstate pipeline construction, and import and export tariffs.

It’s time the government stops price gouging at the pumps by greedy refineries that create artificial shortages at the pump by shutting down refineries and switching seasonal blends while continuing to sell fuel to foreign countries.

In closing, we here in Tulare County that live on a fixed income can no longer afford the crushing effect of high gasoline prices.

I needn’t remind you congressman, the last time fuel costs were this high, oil was $147.00 a barrel. It is now at $92.00 per barrel yet gasoline is over $6.00 per gallon in Los Angeles County and near $5.00 per gallon in Springville, California.

That’s greed. That’s gouging. That’s price fixing. That’s crime and someone should be jailed for it.

Thanks for your time Congressman Nunes.

Sincerely,

Name and address withheld

Grow up and brush upon your own studies. . Yes it’s minted by the US mint but the stated face value has NEVER governed it’s worth, never except for dealing with the government. Do you have a pre-1965 dime? Will you sell it to me for $.11 and think you made a penny profit?

confused?

There's a difference between a Federal Reserve NOTE and 1 DOLLAR. The DOLLAR is real money with a value fixed by the U.S. Government and will NEVER be worth less or worthless like the overprinted fiat currency you call money. I talk apples and you have oranges. Congress COINED the real money and set the value according to the U.S. Constitution. Like it or not.

Read a bit more. Engage your brain before putting your mouth in gear.

I have a 1909-S VDB penny. It's worth 1 cent and will get me a gumball from any old Ford gumball machine.

BTW I can sell it for hundreds of dollars but congress set it's value at 1 cent.

Got it yet?

The value of the currency is NOT the market value. In short it takes you 1,750 treasury notes to but $50.00 in real money.

Hey did you hear the fed’s printing tons of more paper notes? Next year you'll need 2,000 notes for a 1 oz gold coin.

The gold's not wort more... your paper is worthless!

The constitution and rule of law put in front of you and you are still in denial. Funny how facts get in the way of your arguement that congress has nothing to do with the legal tender value of a 1 ounce gold coin made at the United States Mint.

Congress has everything to do with regulating the the value of real money. The federal reserve notes are just that, a note. A promise to give you something of value for one. They have no real set value. The notes are actual bank notes issued by the Federal Reserve Banks and issued by a for profit corporation that can print all they want.

Now read a bit more and sonny... get off the stage.

You think you can buy 1 oz. gold eagles fir fifty buck and you want the government to slap price controls on gasoline and you’re questioning my understanding? Listen, for perhaps the first time ever, congress can regulate the value of anything it wants but that has zero effect on the value of anything. The confederate congress set the value if it’s money at a time people were burning it for fuel. I understand you are not familiar with Gresham’s law or apparently any economic concepts but the willingness of the market to accept something is what sets the value of something. The fact that no one agreed with your original post tells us how the market values your ideas.

Again, get off the stage sonny we're done. It's goes into your left ear and out of the right ear without even rattling around a bit.

Real Money is NOT a bank note. Congress told the mint to add FIFTY DOLLARS to the back of the gold coin. That's it's value as REAL MONEY and is backed by the full faith and credit of the United States government to NEVER be WORTH LESS or worthless.

The words “...redeemable at any federal reserve bank in Gold or silver”; “redeemable in lawful money” and “Silver Certificate” have long since been removed. Congress did not abrogate it's authority to coin money and set the coins value. That's still being done.

I'm done wasting time because all I get from you is Saul Alinsky RULE 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

You're on my stage now. You're on my post. I have never even read or responded to one of yours because I'd find them boring. Then I'd be on your stage.

Now go away sonny you bother me. See Rule 5 above.

Oh I got it, you post nonsense and object when someone calls you on it. Somehow you call that a personal attack. I’ll go away when I please; despite your claim, this isn’t your stage. If you don’t like the conversation or can’t compete in reasoned discussion you can always go away.

The last thing in this world we need is for the federal government to take over anything. We need less government, not more. Get the government the hell out of our way! Let freedom ring!
