What leads a child to grow up and vote for a Republican candidate like Mitt Romney or a Democrat such as Barack Obama? Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign found that parenting style and childhood temperament plays a key role in determining a child’s future political mindset—as in, the bumper sticker your kid decides to slap on her car when she turns 18 might depend on how you reacted when she sneaked out of the house to meet her boyfriend.
The study found that children of strict parents were more likely to turn conservative while those of lenient parents were more likely to lean left. What’s more, children “with higher levels of fearfulness during young childhood” were more likely to have conservative values at age 18, while kids “with higher levels of attentional focusing and activity or restlessness” tended to be liberal, according to LiveScience.

For people who choose the public school route with their kids, I have always said 5. If you haven’t got their heart by 5, the public school system will eat them alive.

Fearfulness?
You mean a common sense approach to perceived threats?
The whole meme they have been pushing in the lasty 40 years has been simply this:
Conservative = Fearful
So what do they want a large group of people who have no fear who will glubly follow their dear leader into whatever oblivion they are marching them towards and forwards?
Also they seem to equate Fearfulness to being “critical” as if being critical is a bad horrible racist thing...
Oh, don’t be critical of the Crap we try to sell you, because if you are you are critical you are fearful and if you are fearful then you are _________ (fill in the blank with a term like racist, bible thumping, slack jawed yoekl, etc etc,....).
What they never say is that the emotion of fear is part of the “evolutuionary toolbox” (i thought they all believed in evolution) that humans use to make judgements about things inthe environment and then make decisions on how to deal with them.
What they are misleading us on is that their idea of fear is actually “The irrational lashing out action caused by a sudden intense FEAR”, not what fear actually is. Thier idea of fear is what we normal people would consider a genuine phobia, fear is more of a situational awerness of a genuine threat. But the left wants to make it a bad word by equating it to irrational phobia.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Kids who are taught responsibility and who are held to account for their actions are conservatives. Kids who always get their way when they scream to mommy and daddy are liberal.
Kids who always get their way are always shielded fromt he consequences of their actions by theuir parents who tyhink they are “doing them a a favor” when in fact the kids are being led down the wrong path and later when they finally leave their parents basement they end up looking for someone to help buffer the consequences of their actions and when they hear a politician wanting to be their “helpful” mommy or daddy they jump right on board with no critical thought about what the liong term consequences will be....
Most all Kids are HARD WIRED to CRAVE boundaries and a FIRM HAND until they start getting old enough to start taking care of themselves. These boundaries create a “blanket of Security” around them when they are young and they feel more loved than if they get everything they want. If you deny them the boundaries they subconciously crave they will be insecure and insecurity leads to them acting like a complete animals!

Having successfully raised a daughter who is now an adult, married and expecting her first child I have been told by her that there was tremendous FREEDOM in the bounds set for her. (Our culture for the most part no longer understands this). There was never any sneaking out to meet her girlfriend. We operate under the Biblical doctrine that "bad company corrupts good morals (1 Corintians 15:33). We associate with other homeschooling/christian families who have the same goals for character development.
Back when we lived on a street with many young people who attended gov't schools, it became readily apparent to her that these "products of modern social engineerning" were behaviorally limited and could not easily function in a mixed-aged/mature environment. Nor were they "kind", but jealous, vindictive and petty. She preferred her many friends from the homeschooling community, church, youth in government, Bardin Music Studio, Mozart, We Make History (Historical Balls/Dances), various scholastic organizations, Network of Enlightened Women (NEW), Navigators and others.
I could rave about her many accomplishments. Sneaking out to be with her girlfiend(s) was not one of them.
