Class Shows. So does its Absence.

I got this today in an e-mail from a friend. Posting it seemed appropriate even though it's partially about the Fort Hood "Workplace" violence back in 2009.

A doctor had the TV in his office on when news of the shootings at Fort Hood, TX came on. The husband of one of his employees was stationed there. He called her into his office and as he told her what had happened, she got a text message from her husband saying, "I am okay." Her cell phone rang right after she read the message. It was an ER nurse, I'm the one who just sent you a text, not your husband. I thought it would be comforting but I was mistaken in doing so. I am sorry to tell you this, but your husband has been shot 4 times and he is in surgery." The soldier's wife left Southern Clinic in Dothan, AL and drove all night to Hood. When she arrived, she found out her husband was out of surgery and would be OK. She rushed to his room and found that he already had two visitors there to comfort him.

He was just waking up and found his wife and the visitors by his side. The nurse took this picture:

What? No news crews and cameras? This is how people with class respond and pay respect to those in uniform. I sent my cousin in Fayetteville, N.C. (Retired from Special Forces) that picture of Geo. W. visiting the wounded at Ft. Hood. I got this reply:

What is even better is the fact George W. Bush heard about Fort Hood, got in his car without any escort, apparently they did not have time to react, and drove to Hood. He was stopped at the gate and the guard could not believe who he had just stopped. Bush only asked for directions to the hospital then drove on. The gate guard called that "The President is on Fort Hood and driving to the hospital."

The base went bananas looking for Obama. When they found it was Bush, they immediately offered escort. Bush simply told them it was OK and to let him visit the wounded and the dependents of the dead.

He stayed at Fort Hood for over six hours, and was finally asked to leave by a message from the White House.

Obama flew in days later and held a "photo opportunity" session in a gym, did not even go to the hospital.

All this I picked up from two soldiers here who happened to be at Fort Hood when it happened. This Bush/Obama/Ft.Hood story is something that should be sent to every voter in the US . Those who wanted "change" certainly got it.

There's a group of ladies in the Dallas area who make and stuff neck pillows for soldiers coming through Dallas Fort Worth airport. They go to the airport and meet the incoming planes every week and greet the soldiers coming back for a few weeks R & R, give them a pillow, tell them they pray for them, and thank them for their service. The lady who took the pictures said everyone was so surprised to see George and Laura Bush recently just standing quietly in the waiting area with others who come to meet the troop planes. She said it was amazing to watch the faces of the soldiers light up in recognition when they spotted them and that many came over to speak and shake hands.

Please tell me once again the name of the _______ in the White House who continues to bad-mouth this man and his wife.

End of the e-mail. Here's my addition: this is an excerpt from an October 23rd PJ Media Tatler article:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said today that he and other colleagues in the upper chamber will lead a push to get the Pentagon to reclassify the 2009 Fort Hood shooting as terrorism.

The Department of Defense infamously called the rampage that left 13 dead an act of “workplace violence.” The court-martial of Army Major Nidal Hasan was postponed indefinitely on Monday by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces over whether Hasan can keep his beard during trial proceedings.

A movement was started by the Coalition of Fort Hood Heroes to ask Congress to put the heat on the Obama administration to change the classification — and make victims eligible for Purple Hearts in the process.

“Until the Department of Defense and the U.S. Army acknowledge the Fort Hood shooting as the terrorist attack that it was, and step up to accept responsibility, apologize and make good for its mistakes and for the harm that the government policies have caused to us and to the U.S. military, it will continue to dishonor the lives of those lost and the pain and suffering still experienced by those of us who survived,” said Shawn Manning, who was wounded in the attack.

“I respectfully disagree with the Department of Defense decision to classify the Fort Hood shooting as workplace violence. It’s not fair to the victims, and their families, for this incident to be described in that manner,” Graham said in a statement.

“Based upon what we already know, this episode fits squarely into the realm of an act of terrorism. I will be working with my colleagues in the Senate to challenge this characterization by the Pentagon and push for an accurate description of the tragic incident that took place at Fort Hood,” he said. “It was terrorism and it should be described that way. The difference in characterization between workplace violence and an act of terrorism is meaningful, in a variety of ways, to the victims and their families.”

Pentagon spokesman George Little said the DoD wouldn’t “further characterize the incident that occurred at Fort Hood on Nov. 5, 2009″ while Hasan’s court proceedings were still under way.

What you posted is only partially true and has been debunked several times.

I’m not saying Bush wasn’t wonderful but things didn’t happen as you laid out.

Thank you.

Here is an update I posted at my blog.

UPDATE

Here's a contemporaneous report from Fox News about the visit.

Former President George W. Bush and his wife Laura secretly visited Fort Hood last night and spent "considerable time" consoling those who were wounded in Thursday's shooting spree, Fox News has learned.
The Bushes entered and departed the sprawling military facility in secret, having told the base commander they did not want press coverage of their visit, a source told Fox News.
The couple was described as "deeply concerned" about military families on Fort Hood after Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan allegedly opened fire on soldiers and civilians, killing 13 and wounding 38.
The Bushes, who have a 1,600-acre property known as Prairie Chapel Ranch less than 30 miles from Fort Hood in central Texas, spent between one and two hours visiting the wounded and their families.
However, according to Snopes, some of the circumstances are misstated in the e-mail I posted. I can't seem to copy and paste from Snopes, but the substance of it is that President Bush did have a secret service escort, that he was not requested to leave Fort Hood and that President Obama also visited some of the wounded soldiers there our days later, on November 10th.

What right does Obama have to tell the Bushes to leave?

Your link to your blog works just fine. But the links to the photos you claim show Bush and his wife do not! I really wanted to see the photos!

I wish I knew the reason why the photos don't appear. They show up fine on my computer from my blog and show up fine from the post at FR. The only explanation I have comes from the HTML version. Here is the first one, and the others are from the same source:

1.964635569@web120304.mail.ne1.yahoo.com

Perhaps they show up for me and others having a Yahoo mail account. I have one, but haven't used it for years. I'd offer to forward the e-mail I got, but a friend who could not see the pictures on the blog could not see them on the e-mail I forwarded to him either.

I just previewed this response, and on my screen the picture referenced in the HTML appears.

Sorry about that. The pictures are great, particularly the many pictures showing President and Mrs. Bush greeting returning soldiers at the airport.

I doubt anyone but you are seeing the Photos, something is wrong with your links. I can not even copy the links and paste into my browser.
