Natural disasters have a way of bring out the best in people — and the worst. Across the Muslim world, Hurricane Sandy was lauded as just punishment for American infidels and as a symbol of the power of Allah:

The path of destruction carved by hurricane Sandy in the US is just a tiny fragment of the punishment warranted by their heinous atrocities—

Destroying everything by the command of Allah, these punishing winds serve as a just recompense for their disbelief and crimes against Islam—

Several revelers attributed Sandy to revenge over “The Innocence of Muslims,” the film wrongly blamed for launching violent anti-American attacks in September, including the deadly attacks in Benghazi:

Sandy is a punishment from Allah to them because of the inappropriate Movie the did about the prophet Mohammed #sandy #storm

Aqeel Ali (@AqeelAliPaki) November 01, 2012

The Saudi Grand Mufti, by contrast, denounced the sick gloating. His condemnation was shared by several other prominent Muslims:

Mustafa al-Nagar, Former Egyptian parliament member who was in the United States at the time of the storm, wrote on his Twitter account: “I pray for people here in America with mercy. What’s happening here is a catastrophe and a tragedy! Do not gloat over innocent victims, this is inhumane.”

Palestinian poet Mourid Barghouti also criticized gloaters over Sandy. He tweeted: “Who told you that children, students, women and men in America wish you [Muslims] death? Politicians like Mubarak and Bush are one thing, and humanity is something else.”

In the same vein, Engy Hamdi, political activist and member of Egypt’s April 6 Movement, wrote on her Twitter account, “Did Islam teach us to gloat amid the misfortunes of people?”

Others echoed this sentiment and expressed disgust at their fellow Muslims’ rejoicing:

How can you feel happy on #sandy pak ppl?

We are suppose to fear Allah and say Astagfirullah on such disaster—

Stop saying that "Hurricane Sandy is a punishment from Allah to the American people." That is not how Muslims are suppose to act.—
SlaveOfAllahSWT? (@somalianicon) November 01, 2012

And many tweeted out prayers for safety and healing:

Allah says:"And disaster will not cease to strike those who disbelieve because of their evil...

It never ceases to amaze me how any Moslem can spew this Allah's revenge nonsense when a natural disaster hits the US, when in reality by far the greatest recent disasters have occured in Moslem nations: huge earthquakes in Iran and Pakistan that killed tens of thousand and the tsunami on Indonesia that killed 100,000 plus, among other disasters.

Well, The Great Satan was normally there first and with the most. And The Little Satan offered tp provide help in Iran, but the Mullahs couldn't tolerate such lifesaving help from the Jews.

Let’s not forget U.S. Navy’s life-saving help during the tsunami in Indonesia, the world’s most populous Moslem nation.

Hard to sort out the wheat from the chaff here. We are used to hatred from some of Islam. May it turn back on them tenfold.

It was the late Gordon Sinclair of Canada who made his declaration on the Americans in 1973. It was played over and over on the American networks later. Sinclair gave examples of help by Americans for other countries disasters. Sinclair then asked rhetorically- "Who comes to the aid of Americans when they need it?"

Anyone out there? The only aid so far and I am quite glad to say, is the skilled electrical workers from Canada now being deployed to the USA. Stay safe and do a good job, says I.

I think we need to remember that:
1. aid comes if accepted
2. The USA can handle most on its own
3. the best support can come from neighboring nations, even if not high-tech, like Canada's or Mexico's help
4. Did Mexico offer aid? Or is it also hit?
