I came across an article last night that started me thinking. It was talking about the negotiations that are now underway between the White House and congressional leaders on how to avoid the upcoming fiscal cliff. In this article, Senator Jeff Sessions, R-AL, was rasing a question that I believe is more than a little relevant to the discussion. Exactly why are these negotiations going on behind closed doors?
(The Hill) Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) is calling on President Obama and congressional leaders to hold open talks to steer clear of the so-called fiscal cliff.Sessions is aiming his criticism at President Obama, rightfully so, but I would go one step further than the Senator and ask congressional leaders, specifically Speaker John Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell why they agreed to hold the negotiations behind closed doors in the first place. These secret talks violate the principle of American government that would be open to -- every city, county school board has open meeting laws. You're not supposed to be meeting in secret, the ranking member on the Budget Committee said late Friday on Fox Newss On the Record.
Why doesn't the American people know what it is the president would like to see as the final idea for America's financial future? he asked host Greta Van Susteren.
I am a firm believer that there are some things in our government that should not be displayed for all the public to see. Some national security issues obviously should be kept under wraps, but I can't help but scoff at the idea that President Obama and congressional leaders think it is necessary to hold these negotiations behind closed doors.
I wouldn't begin to speculate what kind of deal the President and Congress might come up with on the fiscal cliff. They may not even reach a deal and we may plunge over the cliff, for better or for worse. To be sure, whatever they decide to do or not to do, it will affect all of us, in some way or another. Do we not deserve to know what they are talking about? I believe we do, but just as they did in the negotiations before Obamacare was shoved down our throats, our political leaders have retreated behind closed doors. We are still getting the shaft on Obamacare and I look for more of the same when the closed doors are opened and we are informed what they have agreed upon about the fiscal cliff.
In FL we have “Government in the sunshine law”... That is what the Federal government needs! No secret meeting other then National security!
Obama’s position is no secret. “I won. My way or the highway.”Being ignorant, he doesn’t know that doesn’t work when you have failed to carry the House.
Ripping off the taxpayer takes time to organize immunity.
Do we really want to see the republicans cave, again, in public?
The Republicans don’t want it known how much they intend to screw Americans by a total cave in to the Donkeys before all the sellout is completed. Reaching across the aisle = Republicans give the Donkeys everything they want plus some more for cuts 10 years in the future. Funny how that never happens.
Because all they are doing is placing a diving board atop the fiscal cliff.
Because, in the end, the Middle Class will take it up the pooper. Fifty percent of the citizens don't even see it coming (because "the rich" are going to get hit).
Replace "the Rich" with "the Jews" and you get a feeling about where the cleansing will end. It will just expand to other groups, down to about $75K/hr because the "mean" family of four makes about $48K/yr.
Simple. Too many of these in DC:
They remember TEA during the healthcare debate. If they are hiding it from us, it means they know they are doing something that would piss us off.
Why ask why? We all know the answer.
Every 4 years the democrats have to offer their base some kind of new freebie, or the base won't bother to get out of bed to vote. That's how we got to the spending crises we're in today.
Yes, the democrats will always need more money, and they'll steal it from anyone they can. No freebie = no votes. No votes = no power. No power = no luxurious lifestyle and opportunity to be come rich through self serving legislation.
It's never been about "The American people." They simply use us as slaves to enrich themselves. Have you ever heard of a politician who did NOT retire as a multimillionaire?
Why ask why, indeed. The answers are obvious -- and no one does a damn thing about it. Hopelessness haunts the land now.
Bonehead is negotiating for his true base the Lobbyists crowd that keep him
In power so he wants that to be a secret.
He could care less about us .
Keeping out tax dollars flowing to his former aides running these lobbyists and their clients is his real concern !
Obamacare will not be killed off because the lobbyists want it !
Remember how “indignant and outraged” the Congressional Republicans were in Feb. ‘09 when the Rats dropped their wet dream of a “Stimulous” Bill on them? Well, the Congressional GOP is planning on doing just that to us now. I guess they want us to “...feel their pain.”
“I have been waiting for the “people who make more than $250,000” to change to people who OWN more than $250,000.”
You probably won’t have to wait much longer...
Don’t ya know that when you are getting screwed it is suppose to be behind closed doors?
