I run from danger like my privates are on fire!

But sometimes there is no place to run. Then you gotta have some kind of backup plan.

Backup plan provided by Mr’s Smith and Wesson.

I have been in several self-defense scenarios and than the head butt the best is a slap rather than a punch (to the head only, won’t do much on ribs). You run a 50/50 shot of breaking a bone in your hand whereas a slap not only lowers that risk it also provides you an easy transition into a knife hand block or grabbing move. Also, a well delivered slap will water eyes so quick it makes your head spin.

Also, never kick above the waist, you open yourself up for a wide range of attacks.

That Glock trumps everything.

Did you watch the video? It’s all head butts, slaps, knees, and a couple of low kicks. Exactly what you are describing.

Sure (not a Glock - I hate ‘em!) a S&W or preferably .45 Colt Commander would be nice, but that’s not always possible due to various circumstances.

Yes, I agree about the head butt being unexpected. For a smaller person, who has just had their arms trapped to their sides or grabbed, it is about the only shot at breaking loose.

My company blocks most videos. Sometimes I see them most of time I cannot.

As an aside, Paul Vunak’s martial arts background is centered around Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kun Do, which is a very infighting oriented, energy conserving style much like Ed Parker’s American Kenpo.

It was very different from Lee’s movie screen martial arts which was very flashy and showy, visually more interesting.

Master Parker did a movie with Hapkido Master Bong Soo Han, called “Kill the Golden Goose”, which was terribly hard to film, because most of the action takes place in the small area between two opponents. Almost too fast to see at normal speed.

So, it was true to life, a movie for martial artists instead of for martial arts movies fans.

Now that was funny...

Back story on that scene was that he had eaten something that didn’t wish to stay with him... he needed a toilet, he said that there was an entire fight scene choreographed and practiced... but he had to go... therefore that “aw crap” look on his face after he shot the guy

TT

Dig fingers into area between the jaws and ears and press in like hell. try it on yourself.

Fast, double handed, cupped hand, ear slaps are debilitating/disorienting and can lead to deafness on the opponent.

I’ve studied Vunak’s techniques. The thing that makes them work is you’ve got 8 basic moves to learn, and they are not extremely complex. You don’t have five or six steps to do something, you have one uncomplicated move. The other thing, noting your Bruce Lee reference, is the physical distance where the fighting takes place. Lee narrowed the distance from where it normally took place and had an advantage over other fighters of the day whose styles required them to have more room to set up moves and longer attack and defense times.

Also Vunak expressed in his teaching you do what you need to do so that you can get away, not stay and keep fighting.

And I should clarify that while you only have 8 moves to remember, you can chain them into a vast array of moves, pretty much endless combinations. See a leg opening, use one of several leg moves. See an opening for a head move of one kind or another, use a head move. Can you do a move that dislocates the elbow? or breaks a foot arch? Do that move.

Then get the hell outta there.

Years ago a FReeper here told a story in third person (to protect the guilty) of being mugged by four guys in the Philippines and taking out an Achilles tendon on each one with a Spyderco folder knife.
