The MSM is probably going to have to do something about these closing and layoff stories, the natives might get restless.

“The company is a supplier of Southern U.S. hardwoods.” When I iived near Vicksburg, I used to load up the truck with scraps from their car deck operation to burn in the garage heater. I still have some of the decking I bought to make work benches. I moved that today to make room for more stuff. I hadn’t looked at it for years.

I would say this...if you go out and research saw mill operations over twenty years (any operation in any state)...you tend to notice that most have some soft periods where they go from 100 percent operation to 50 percent operation for six to twelve months, and then come back to full strength again. Housing construction as far as I can see....is not happening at the same level as 2007.

And I would say I agree with you.

Those in the timber/wood products industry do their best to plan around market variables, but I would like to point out that the tree hugger strategy is to suppress sawmill activity, in any way possible, using mostly fraudulent methods, until the mill owner can no longer financially retain the mill.

The ultimate goal is to force sale and removal of the machinery and equipment, rendering it highly unlikely that the mill will ever reopen, too expensive and too risky.

I have relatives in the timber industry in Oregon. Firsthand knowledge.

I’m from MS, have lived in Oregon for over 20 years, and you are absolutely correct.

Timber is a renewable crop. For some reason, Oregon has so many trees that we are able to export 85% of the nation’s Christmas trees.

When I was a kid, timber was Mississippi’s main export, and I bet that is still the case.

It’s all about getting rid of the timber industry.

I hate to see that MS is being targeted by the enviros.

I hate to see that MS is being targeted by the enviros Communists.

All spot on, but I had to edit that one word for clarity.

Environmentalism is the new spelling of Communism, it is about the control and confiscation of private property by making it worthless.

Environmentalism has nothing to do with "protecting" the environment, only in making it Communistic.

All together now,... Watermelons are green on the outside, and......
