Roselle Officials Call For Criminal Background Checks On All Gun Sales

ROSELLE – With the urging of Mayor Jamel Holley, the Roselle Borough Council last night unanimously adopted a resolution calling for criminal background checks to be mandated on all gun sales in the United States, and that lethal, military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines be kept off the streets.

“Measures must be enacted to make gun trafficking a federal crime,” Holley said. “There are now 30,000 Americans killed every year as a result of gun violence, destroying families and harming communities. How many more tragedies can this country withstand before real action is taken?

Holley is among 725 mayors involved with “Mayors Against Illegal Guns,” a bipartisan coalition working to protect their communities by keeping guns out of dangerous hands

“Elected officials have a responsibility to protect their communities by holding gun offenders and irresponsible gun dealers accountable,” Holley said...

While there at it, might as well outlaw booze and cars as well. More people being killed in car accidents, plus those related to too much booze than are killed by guns.

The FBI’s UCR report for 2011.

California led the nation with the most in 2011 with 1,220 total - 866 by handguns and 45 homicides with rifles; 50 by shotgun ; 259 unknown.

The state of Hawaii with the least murders with only 1.

Data table 20 does not include the expanded data for example that includes justifiable homicides by LEOs and private citizens in the commission of crimes.

I thought background checks were already the law...am I wrong?
