At the height in the Classic period they were probably the most advanced culture in the world.

While the Mayans were building this:

This Roman building was a thousand years old:

I wonder if the thousands/millions of Mayans living in Mexico and Guatemala today know they have no clergy among them? I mean if a DUmmy puts it on the internet it must be true, right?

I am in Cancun now.

There were a gazillion people in Cechen Itza today (I assume nadin was NOT one of them).

We were provided a pretty straightforward explanation of the Mayan Calendar (and, SURPRISE! nadin was wrong or at least she didn’t mention the main mechanisms that drive it). I already knew the theory but it makes a lot of sense when you see it in action. The next confluence is in 26,000 years so mark your calendars accordingly.

I was expecting everything to end, but now I am back in the hotel feeling sort of -— empty ;)

Alas they did use wheels . . .

[Oh oh. This sounds like someone who knows what they're talking about. Could it be. . . ?]

I get your point but what the DUmmie forgot to add - or assumed all DUMies would somehow know - these the little words: 'at that time'. So with that in mind DUmmie Nadin is correct (she's just so dam condescending).

During the height of Mayan 'Classical Period', Europe was in the the 'Dark Ages' (circa 600-900 AD) and those 'European barbarians' forgot everything Rome (and Etruscans before them), Greece, and Egypt had knowledge of. So compared to European 'barbarians', Mayans were at the top. However the DUmmie would still be wrong as China was pretty darn advanced around 600-900 AD. And they used 'the wheel'

NOTE: I'm no pretend Einstein like the DUmmies. I watch the H2 Channel a lot and the Mayans have been the hot topic of late. And I read some of that 'History stuff' too.

I finally got around to reading Churchill's History of the English Speaking Peoples which he begins with Roman Britannia.

He laments that after the Romans left, it took 1500 years for Britain to get back to the standard of living it enjoyed then.

Nadin replies “I’m NOT condescending! Did I mention that means talking talking down to people?”
