Prayers go out to the famlies of the 4/8 Red Wings crew lost when their
Tu-204 overshot a runway yesterday in Moscow- yet with no passengers on-board this one could have been
whole lot worse:

Wow. For those who don’t know dash cams in Russian cars are pretty much becoming standard;

they are inexpensive and decent for footage. if you drive solo a lot it’s great evidence if you need it to ensure the truth about an accident is what you say it is. decent ones that take sd cards are $35-40 on amazon.

Years ago, mt nephew was driving in I-70 and a house came off the trailer it was being transported on. He went right throught the front door of the ting. He wasn’t hurt, they safely got him out of the inside of the thing and he called his Ins. Co. “Mr. Schnell? This is Art.... I just wanted to report that I hit a house.” “OK? Anybody hurt? Whats the address?” “Well it’s on I-70 just below Washington, PA.” “Yes but what IS the address?” “I said IT’S ON I-75 JUST BELOW WASHINGTON, PA!!!” Took a while to straighten that up. Can you imagine this guy “Fyodor, I just hit an airplane.” “ Sergei,How much wodka did you HAVE?”

I’ve been aware of the phenomenon and watching various dash cam YouTube vids for a while now, to the point where I’ve even considered getting one to play around with and install in my car.

Just watching the “highlights” (lowlights?) vids, it makes you think driving in Russia is some dystopian Mad Max experience. Which, given the per capita vodka consumption, perhaps it is.

he conditions of Russian roads are perilous, with an insane gridlock in the city...

When i was there in 1972, it wasn't like that at all. The streets of Moscow, Petersburg, Tallinn and Riga resembled the streets of Los Angeles on Christmas morning. Coming from the West, it seemed odd to be in such big cities and see so few cars. However, the buses and subways were always overcrowded
