For reasons that escape me, most people on Capitol Hill and members of the brain dead "Press Corpse uh Corps" seem to believe that Obama really wants a compromise to avoid going over the so-called Fiscal Cliff. The assumption is that Obama wants to raise taxes only on those making over $250,000 annually and would like to have something done about those sequestration laws.
Talk about living in a fantasy universe.
The Fiscal Cliff is tailor made for Obama. Keep in mind that the law which implements this tax hike and sequestration was recommended by a member of Obamas administration.
So what will happen if the law is not changed? Tax rates will go back to the rates we had in 2001. Spending will be cut by $1 trillion over 10 years.
Lets look at these results one at a time: raising taxes. First, I agree that raising taxes is not sound policy in an anemic economy and could bring on another recession in 2013. From Obamas perspective higher tax rates will increase revenue to the treasury, allowing him to spend more. If it leads to a recession in 2013, so what? It isn't going to affect him.
Keep in mind that he's an incredibly lucky community organizer who ended up in his dream job. Hes got his job, his Air Force One, a large free house where he can host extravagant parties using his personal servants, taxpayer-paid vacations to luxury resorts for another 4 years, a very handsome pension and the ability to become ultra-wealthy the same way the Clintons did it after leaving the White House.
He's term-limited out so a bad economy doesnt worry him from an electoral standpoint. In fact, a bad economy, higher unemployment and the economic ills that accompany it are is tailor made for a President who wants to increase government control over people. With millions more unemployed there are great opportunities for even longer unemployment benefits, more free cell phones, more food stamps, more people claiming social security disability benefits, even a broader version of ObamaCare. The press corps is not going to make him uncomfortable by asking pesky questions about his part in a stagnant economy; theyll dutifully blame the Republicans.
Tell me again why he would not want to go with that.
Second, about that spending cut. Government is the only entity that argues with a straight face that spending more is spending less. If they planned to increase spending by a trillion dollars and they actually spend a trillion dollars minus a penny, thats the government definition of a drastic spending cut. But if government spending is kept at roughly current levels, a trillion dollar cut over 10 years is actually a reduction of one hundred billion dollars a year. At one time that was a lot of money. Since the beginning of the Obama spending spree thats a rounding error. If the Obama government saw one hundred billion dollars lying in the street, they would pass it by like you would pass a dirty penny.
But heres the reason that Obama doesnt mind the sequester: it falls largely on the military and Barack Obama wants to cut the military back. He believes that America is the cause of much of the worlds problems and most of that is attributed to Americas powerful military. So the sequester for him is a win-win. He gets to gut the military and blame the Republicans at the same time. How cool is that!
You can be confident that congress will not stand in the way of additional spending on social programs if the recession hits. They have to run for re-election. And if it doesnt hit you can be sure that Obama will find any number of excuses to demand more for his people.
What I find incredibly frustrating is the picture of Republican congressional leaders trying to shift the blame for the fiscal cliff to Obama by complaining about his lack of leadership on the issue. First of all, its a stupid tactic because it elevates him to the position of the indispensable man. Why they would want to do that is beyond me. Second, they make it appear as if Obama actually wants a solution to the fiscal cliff when hes perfectly fine with the solution he has now. They should have been accusing Obama of wanting to go over the fiscal cliff for months. That, at least, would have been the truth and would have gotten a different response from the Democrats and perhaps even Team Obama.
Precisely my point.
It is not simple, no question.
Yes, the gubmint can never run out of money!/sarc
1.start with getting rid of the 100,000’s of pages of government regulations at all levels of government, get rid of the EPA, FDA, IRS , dept of energy for starters , then keep going. Get government out of the way of businesses, of starting businesses,
2. lower and flatten taxes rates(provides profit motive), eliminate many taxes. eliminate all property taxes, taxes on dividends , capital gains taxes. only a low flat tax 12% at federal level and existing sales taxes at local level
3.repeal most laws including those that mandate and enable unions, frivolous lawsuits ( loser pays ) etc.
That's for starters, how's that?
elect me as Pres
In that case the GOP ceases to exist.
I refuse to accept that.
Or in simpler terms, follow the constitution, eliminating anything that doesn’t fit.
Doesn’t it just frost you that none of the Repubs have ever called them the Bush Tax Cuts? Just doing that would change the narrative. Boehner is just the worst, the absolute worst.
Just read the headlines.

“Doesnt it just frost you that none of the Repubs have ever called them the Bush Tax Cuts? Just doing that would change the narrative. Boehner is just the worst, the absolute worst.”
SO TRUE!!! The Republicans could have had a field day asking why the Democrats want to extend the “Bush Tax Cuts for the Rich”.
But they STILL do not know how to play street ball with these people...they’re clueless.

The GOP is hell bent on self-destruction. It is too infested with liberals. This country doesn’t need 2 liberal parties. One of them will fold, and it is most likely going to be the Republicans.
“Can’t bring back jobs until you get rid of the unions. And that won’t happen, so the jobs go bye-bye. “
DEAD RIGHT regarding unions - although there are some apologists on this site that refuse to see the damage done by them. All we can do is keep yelling from the hills and hope that, hopefully, some day things get better.
Although I agree it’s hard to be optimistic.
I agree with just about everything you’ve said with one exception: Obama knows that increasing taxes on everyone does nothing (except negative) for revenue.
I believe he and the Dems are going to immediately call for a tax-cut for everyone below $250K. The Dems will then “own” tax cuts, as far as the uneducated public is concerned.
eiher way, the fiscal cliff is the end of the GOP. Either they get blamed for the recession that is coming or they capitulate and lose their base. Get ready for a generation or more of liberal rule.
The deceiver is being deceived...
But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13.
And you know who's behind all this...
...the devil that deceived them... Revelation 20:10.
Let's start calling them who they are (lovers of the state, haters of individual freedom ("statism" from state+ism)) and quit calling them who they aren't ("liberal" means lover of freedom).
Going back to the turn of the 20th century and later to the 1960's, the "progressive" intellectual elite and the hippies respectively, talked about peace and love but were actually lovers of the state. From then until now, they've always hated your right to think and do as you please and loved government as a means of forcing their ideas on the rest of us. They're not "liberal" at all. They are statists - "vile" and "churlish," as scripture prophesied thousands of years ago in Isaiah 32.
The vile person shall be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful. For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy, and to utter error against the Lord, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail. The instruments also of the churl are evil: he devises wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks right. Isaiah 32:5-7.
We who love freedom, however, are libertarians, not capital "L" the party, but those who believe in individual liberty and government LIMITED to the protection of those freedoms.
But the liberal devises liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand. Id. vs.8.
