"...buried in New Zealand's national archives,.. a bizarre WWII plan to create a "tsunami bomb"....." The project was launched in June 1944 after a US naval officer noticed that blasting operations to clear coral reefs around Pacific islands sometimes produced a large wave, raising the possibility of creating a "tsunami bomb". Explosive tests carried out in waters north of Auckland led scientists to conclude that the weapon was feasible and a series of 10 massive blasts offshore could create a 10-metre tsunami capable of inundating a small coastal city. "It was absolutely astonishing," Waru said".... .."Waru said the project was shelved in early 1945, despite the success of initial, small-scale tests."

Interesting. Now I wonder if this could be used for benevolent purposes. Waves can destructively interfere with each other, so if you knew a tsunami was coming and could send a similar wave towards it, to collide at just the right spot, you might negate the tsunami, at least theoretically.

Modern computing will make this one a very viable weapon, suitable for asymetric warfare.

The Japanese were so well dug into Iwo Jima that it was inevitable that we had to go onto the island and root them all out.

The only thing that could have prevented it was if the island had tipped over...

“...blasting operations to clear coral reefs around Pacific islands...”

Oooooooooooo, that’s gonna go over “like a fart in church”, with the enviro-wacko crowd.

Drown them in place. Those on Mt. Suribachi would starve eventually. As would those on N end of island. Anything to reduce our casualties.

The research is a reality now, that’s exactly how “noise cancelling” headphones work.

I think if you wanted it to be truly "weapons grade", you'd have to use Michael Moore.

But then you'd need a ship large enough to get him out to sea, and that could be a problem.

You just inspired a delightful little mind picture of bombing the Iranian nuclear facility with Michael Moore.

Thank you!

Now I'm visualizing the Iranian ten o'clock news as they try to figure out what they just got bombed with...

"Shabaabaa wabaabaa mikindu waheel..."Zionist enemies...attacking..."Bahbeedahwahbee bibi afreet baboosh..."Problem in the translation...something like 'Mother of All Man-Pigs'...can't make it out...
