The daughter I gave away for adoption- found me
1/7/2013 | eeevil conservative

I gave away a little girl for adoption over 22 years ago. I have tried to find her, but she found me first. Needless to say, this has been the BEST CHRISTMAS in my life ever.

Bad news- she had a daughter of 6 months old pass away in November. I never got to know about her before her passing.

The good news. I am a grandma! I have a grandson who just so happens to share the same birthday as my son! She has forgiven me. And wants to meet me.

Choosing LIFE is nothing to brag about. A child should never thank their mother for the chance of life. NEVER!

I praise God that He was with me all my life and never let me fall to fear that satan would steel my soul.

Forgive me for indulging all of you in this personal venture of my life. But I cannot help but want to share such a story of redemption, forgiveness, and new life with folks I think might enjoy some good news in this world today from a fellow FReeper.

It's good she's alive. I'll bet she appreciates that choice you made. That you chose life.

Thanks for sharing such a sweet personal event! You are a blessing, your children and grandchildren are a blessing. Life is a precious gift from our Creator. As an adoptive mom, I pray constantly for my daughter’s birth mom, and I imagine what it would be like to meet her (we have no way to meet her—my daughter was born in Siberia). So glad you are building a relationship with your daughter and your grandchild.

God is SO good!

Yes! Yes He did! More than you know! Her initial letter to me, even addressed me as “mom”—

I don’t deserve that title from her. Grace and Mercy are a beautiful thing...

You should get a hold of Scattered Siblings Amazon, which is about a 26-year search for a birth mother here in Cleveland that was also very successful. Lots of twists and turns and strange moments, and a lot of humor too. It's a three-hanky book. Hard to understand what adoptees go through.

Amen to that— but ya know— I am a true believer that our politics is only a window into our soul....

It is my view on life that was the “gateway drug” into my becoming a conservative!

I have two brothers who came home this year, their pettiness wasn’t worth the trouble, it really is joyous. We love them dearly, this Christmas was so heart felt.

OP, keep in you heart this moment, invite her family to your events. You just gained new ‘relatives’ that should be embraced.

Thank you for sharing that! I will say that I interviewed couples to find her parents....when she told her father that she found me, he told her that I was a “wonderful and cool lady”

twist is— I think the same of her mom and dad! WONDERFUL people!

That is good, but I agree with Dr. Laura that they should not release the records of the person who gave the baby to adopted parents. Dr. Laura pointed out to an adopted child who could not get his natural parent's records that the natural parent could have scraped the adopted child down the sink instead of letting him live and have him be adopted. A parent who gives up a child for adoption is not all that bad.

Incidentaly, in regards to the divorce of Ahnold and Maria Shriver, Schwarzenegger could have encouraged the birth mother of his illegitimate child to abort their baby, but he did not.

thank you! I have a hard time believing I deserve this...but everyone I know, my other kids, husband, etc, all tell me I do deserve it....

I hate using the word “deserve”— but I am more than willing to take this miracle from my God!

Yes ma’am - you do. May God bless and keep you all.

Thank you Lord. For Your guidance, and more, for Your patience.

Congratulations and God bless you and your daughter! I was adopted myself and was put in touch with my biological mom in New Mexico after I wrote the state and learned about using an intermediary. It’s been an amazing journey and the best part was discovering a half-brother who was also put up for adoption. His adoptive family are all dead and he moved to New Mexico and was “re-adopted” by a large supportive family. I was 23 at the time and was motivated because I knew she was 23 as well when I was put up for adoption.

I hope you are relieved of any guilt you may have felt. You gave her life and a chance at a life you couldn’t provide at that time. Sometimes my bio mom will say, “I hope you have forgiven me.” I keep reminding her “There is nothing to forgive. I have never resented what you did. You chose life over adoption and gave me a chance with a wonderful family.” (My brother wasn’t so lucky with the abusive family that adopted him, unfortunately.) The first thing I did when I met her face-to face after I returned from my overseas assignment in 1993, was to thank her for giving me a chance.

I am so happy for the both of you!
