It occurred to me today that the Right’s push for a very strong military goes against the whole theory behind the second amendment. It would make a lot more sense to have a smaller military, be less involved in foreign wars and nation building, and for the armed public to be a better match for our military machine.

Right you are.

On a related note, this thought occurred to me yesterday. Many conservatives love to talk about “American exceptionalism,” right? But, I’d be willing to bet their beloved Founders would have dismissed and even cautioned against such an idea.

For instance, baby boomers especially were taught to believe America is “good.” So, it’s no surprise they grow up to believe the leaders WE THE PEOPLE elect to OUR government are somehow incapable of becoming power-hungry tyrants. That happens elsewhere, not HERE!

Along with simple ignorance, it’s that sort of American exceptionalism I use to explain why so many sheeple insist we’re nuts if we suggest the Second Amendment not only was but IS needed today to fight tyranny and protect all the other rights.
