Refusal to Allow Smart Meter cause for Arrest
The Blaze ^ | 1/24/13 | Pleistarchos

This is one brave woman, People like this put many of us to shame for our failure to act. Appropriately her last name means 'steel' in German.

"Jennifer Stahl has been a strong advocate against the smart meter program in Naperville, Ill., for the last two years. The issue came to a head Wednesday afternoon when she was arrested while refusing to let the utility workers install the controversial device....

Stahl was at a friend’s house when she received the call from her husband that the utility workers had arrived. She was home within 15 minutes and saw they were at a neighbor’s house. Her neighbors were not home, but they had signs stating they did not permit the new meter to be installed......

"I’d rather ante up $60000 for solar power, rather than be tracked."

You have to be realistic. Solar power does not work, at ANY cost. Even here in southern Texas, houses with these high cost panels and inverters still have to be connected to the grid. In Illinois, you would be lucky to have enough power to read an iPad at night, consistently. You would likely have to use bottled water to even take a cold bath.

“....and force them to take their property with them. I’d power my home in some other way.”

And that is your only choice. The power company owns and has a legal right to access everything up to and including the power meter. If you interfere with that, you are breaking the law. You can avoid it if you forgo power service, that’s the only way.

“All the alleged “Smart Meter” does is send the readings to the power company instead of a meter reader once a month. What is it you think the “Smart Meter” does?”

No, it does more than that.

It is a requirement for the power company to charge you “demand pricing”. It will also be possible for it to determine what you peak demand is - and charge you a differential price for that. It could also facilitate government taxation for not being “green” enough and having too much stuff plugged in.

Ultimately it will be able to communicate with, adjust, and turn on/off appliances in your home.

This will be another way to “tax the rich” if the rich have more stuff plugged in, they’ll pay. If you don’t have the right kind of lightbulbs, if you have too big a fridge, if you like your water hotter than is government approved.

People don’t understand where this is going.

The solution isn’t to stop smart meters. The solution is to tar-and-feather politicians who will take these capabilities and use them to micromanage taxpayers.

“Well if you have natural gas and can afford it, you can always go with your own generator and opt out of the system”

Until they install a “smart” gas meter. I’m not kidding.

They’ll be installing a “smart” water meter too.

“it’s about who decides what goes on your property, you or them?”

No it isn’t. It’s already decided. It’s their property (the meter) and they have the legal right to access it - which you granted to them by having them install power service.

“Quite awhile ago, one anti-smart meter rumor claimed that when meters sent data that they were possibly a radiation hazard”

A rumor that is alive and well......It’s ridiculous, but that doesn’t matter with things like this.

They always have known how much electricity you use every month, it’s right there on your bill. The new meters are just easier and quicker for them to read. They don’t have to come into our back yard anymore and take a chance of letting our dogs out to get killed in the street. I am in favor of them for that reason alone.

Threads like this make us look stupid.

“Threads like this make us look stupid.”

It’s especially enlightening when people point this out before they realize that they are the ones who look stupid.

If you think that information like this will not be ultimately used to tax people for not being “green” enough, then you are stupid, indeed.

If you have detailed electricity usage like this, you can find out an awful lot about someone.

I don't know where you live sir but I live in Houston and when the temperature is 99 and the humidity is close to that the electric company already knew that everyone’s A/C unit is going full blast. They didn't need a smart meter to figure it out.

Hmm.
Looks like the Blaze credits Liz Klimas as the author.

You have listed yourself as the author.

Isn’t that odd?

“They didn’t need a smart meter to figure it out.”

Well they can still use it to see how “green” you are, even in Houston - and then assign you an appropriate lifestyle tax.

You have to realize how diabolically psychopathic these folks are. If they can get information they will collect it, if they can use the information, they will use it, if you object strongly enough, they will seek to destroy you, especially if you are politically opposed to them (which is information they already have)

I wonder what would happen if these meters ended up smashed and the homeowners denied doing it.

Would cameras be next installed next?

I am green in the winter not the summer. Where did you say you lived?

“Ultimately it will be able to communicate with, adjust, and turn on/off appliances in your home.”

There are as I said in another post options available if a person for some insane reason wants to allow the electric company to control their A/C useage in the peak hours of the Summer, but it isn’t in that alleged “Smart Meter”. It is a separate option that can be attached to your A/C. The only relation it has to your “Smart Meter” is that the “Smart Meter” records the electrical consumption/useage, or doesn’t the lack thereof.

Agree with you on the politicians, and that is key.

” if a person for some insane reason wants to allow the electric company to control their A/C useage in the peak hours of the Summer, but it isn’t in that alleged “Smart Meter”.”

New appliances will be mandated to interface with the Smartmeter. They’ll sell it as a feature.

That actually IS the direction they are headed.

“I am green in the winter not the summer. Where did you say you lived?”

I mean “green” as in “government approved” green, not as in foliage.

That is exactly what I meant. If I had meant foliage I would be green in the summer and brown in the winter.
