Not to worry. The news reporter on the vid assured me:
1. It’s required training.
2. They are for preparing for overseas engagements.
3. They’re making sure their equipment is in good condition.
Whew. It’s good to know there are so many legitimate reasons for this drill. For a moment or two, I was worried.

I don’t think there just happened to be a Miami Heat game going on in the midst of this training exercise around the arena. I think the simulated “event” they’re preparing for is an attack on the Super Bowl.

Police say a military training exercise is planned for MiamiMIAMI Miami-Dade police are warning residents that military helicopters may be buzzing their neighborhoods sometime soon.
But it's no reason to panic. Police said Monday that multiple agencies will be providing support for a joint military training exercise somewhere in the area.

The federal government is funneling all kinds of money into these local police departments. Payback will come. The news report did state that this was a joint exercise with the police and military.

Paranoid whacks!
Did you ever think there might be a unpermitted lemonade stand, or a lose labradoodle?
Think how one chopper could handle threats to the public while protecting those that protect and serve.

So, I guess it is OK to practice anti rotor-wing exercises. You never know when terrorists might seize control of hippityhoppers and start shooting at taxpayers with confiscated NY state gunz.
BTW, anti-air against hippityhoppers is quite easy no noise, no smoke, no heat signature.
See, we can both scare each other...........

I did a YouTube search and found several videos of military training in Miami over the past few years involving Blackhawks and “gunfire” ... from May 8, 2012, April 18, 2011. Also, on the 25th of this month in LA, and in Chicago Aptil 17, 2012.
This isn’t new. It is a little disconcerting though ...

Really not that much unusual about it -- drills over populated areas have been going on forever -- EXCEPT for the apparent sound of automatic weapons fire. Since there were no flashes, and evidently no empty casings, was the sound even coming from the helos? Was it an automatic air-gun training weapon as one comment suggests? Whether blanks or airgun, if the sounds were coming from the choppers they have the same oppressive effect on the civilian population. I am surprised no drivers freaked out and wrapped cars around each other on that highway, which makes me suspicious the reports were not from the Apaches.
