It was revealed recently that President Obama told John Boehner he was tired of hearing about a supposed spending problem in America, that it didn't exist. Democrat Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi joined in the madness last Sunday, declaring it was a false argument to say our government has a spending problem. Now, we have another liberal Democrat in spending denial, with Senator Tom Harkin voicing his opinion on the subject. This gets crazier every week. Let me share Harkin's thoughts on the issue, using two different sources because it seems a lot of people are not catching the full context of what he had to say.
(Caffeinated Thoughts) Thank you, Madam Chair. I think, first of all, I want to disagree with those who say we have a spending problem. Everyone keeps saying we have a spending problem. And when they talk about that, it’s like there’s an assumption that somehow we as a nation are broke. We can’t afford these things any longer. We’re too broke to invest in education and housing and things like that. Well look at it this way, we’re the richest nation in the history of the world. We are now the richest nation in the world. We have the highest per capita income of any major nation. That kind of begs the question, doesn’t it? If we’re so rich, why are we so broke? Is it a spending problem? No.Now, the second quote which shows us the direction of Harkin's thought process.
(CNS News) “Is it a spending problem? Harkin said. “No, it’s because we have a misallocation of capital, a misallocation of wealth.”Ah, the truth comes out. The liberal Democrats, of whom Senator Tom Harkin is a prime example, really do not believe a spending problem exists in America. According to them, all we have to do is reallocate the capital and wealth. After all, just because someone has worked all their life and managed to accumulate enough wealth so they and their family can live more than a little comfortably, that doesn't mean they are entitled to the fruits of their labor. The government can obviously do a better job of allocating funds to the proper people. I mean, they are doing such a bang-up job with the money of the taxpayer now, why not give it all to them and let them distribute to their heart's content?“All of this wealth that’s been built up by hard-working Americans has been accumulated into fewer and fewer and fewer hands all the time,” Harkin said.
Any words I write in this post can not adequately express the sarcasm and the complete disgust I feel when I hear any government official expounding on the fiscal condition of our country in this way. I do not consider myself a very smart man, but I am smart enough to know Senator Tom Harkin and his ilk are full of something that smells horribly bad. President Obama believes he has a mandate from the people to do as he pleases. This amounts to more tax and spend policies coming out of Washington and Tom Harkin believes that is the direction we need to go as a country. I would suggest he take notice of the feeling in America that he already has his new revenue. Asking for more isn't going to work. It's time to cut spending, regardless of how the liberal wing of the Democrat Party feels about that sacred cow.
We the people of these United States need to send every politician past and present a “past due” notice on their 16+ trillion dollar debt and form a CIRS (Citizens Internal Revenue Service) to start seizing their assets.

I once work for an Indian tribe that owned a very large casino. I was negotiating the purchas of over a thousand desktop computers and related software and materials. The tribal elder committee I answered to was impatient and wanted to know why I didn’t just settle with the vendors. I explained that I was trying to get the best terms and price. A besotted old hag on the committee screamed at me that the tribe took in more than a million dollars a day and would never have to worry about money. I explained that if they spent two million dollars a day, it wouldn’t take long to go broke. I looked at twelve sets of uncomprehending eyes. The tribe is practically broke today.
The nation only differs in scale and the fact that the nation can print money.
It's not easy for me to determine if he's being disingenouous (that's my polite euphemism) or if his sense of entitlement has evolved into dementia. Anyone who has witnessed in person the extent to which Tom Harkin considers himself entitled to appropriate other peoples' money has seen one of the seven wonders of the modern political world.
