Gun Control Idiocy And Personal Responsibility
Political Realities ^ | 04/03/13 | LD Jackson

As has been the case since the beginning of Obama's second term, it seems gun control remains in the news. All sorts of things are happening and Obama is on the road again, trying to gin up support for any and all measures to curb our 2nd Amendment rights. No, he isn't calling it that and I am sure he would take an exception to my description of what he is doing, but I believe I am correct in my assessment. In a comment I left at America's Watchtower, where they are discussing the insane proposal from certain liberal Democrats in Congress to require gun owners to purchase $10,000 in liability insurance, I said the following.

Why is it that every proposal for new gun laws and regulations we see being proposed punishes law-abiding citizens? I have yet to see a single thing that will do anything to cut down on gun violence. All of them will put the onus on people like you and me. That tells me where their hearts really are and what they really want to do.
I'm not one to quote myself very often, but I believe what I said is true. Will the liability proposal see the light of day? Probably not, unless we have a complete capitulation from the Republicans who serve there, but it should serve to highlight exactly why we need to be on our guard. Nothing I have seen from the proponents of gun control inspires me with a great deal of confidence. Nothing they have proposed will do anything to stop shootings such as occurred in Aurora, CO and Newton, CN. What those proposals will do is hinder and restrict our 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. You'll have to forgive me if I refuse to go along on that trip, just to make myself feel good for doing something.

Gun Control and Personal ResponsibilityOne of the main problems we have in America right now is the lack of personal responsibility. Liberals have preached at us for years, slowly grinding down our resistance, and personal responsibility slowly been eroded away. When a shooting occurs, it is society that is at fault, not the person who decided to start pulling the trigger, or so we are told. Thus, we need more laws that will do nothing to prevent another shooting. Again, or so we are told. That's why we are seeing all of these new gun control proposals. The liberals seem to believe we all need to be corrected and that the only way to accomplish anything is to restrict our 2nd Amendment rights.

Compare that to someone taking personal responsibility for their actions, or to our laws holding those people accountable for said actions. Instead of passing a bunch of laws that will only impede and restrict the actions of law-abiding citizens, why not take action to enforce the laws that are on the books? Why not aim our wrath at the criminals who are already breaking the law, instead of creating new criminals by passing gun control laws that turn many of us into criminals overnight? Of course, that would entail us all taking personal responsibility for our actions and the liberals just can't have that happening. Their power base would be threatened if such a turn around took place. Thus, we see the gun control idiocy unfolding. The liberal proponents of gun control will not rest until they have achieved their goal, or until we put them in their place and assert our 2nd Amendment rights.

There are two sides to this issue. Which side are you on?

Crime, violence, deviancy? The MSM invariably focuses on the deed and not the doer.
It’s somehow the fault of ALL OF US if some clown decides to drive his car 70 MPH into a crowd of school children.

Really?

What about the OTHER things this clown has been doing all his life and right under the noses of his teachers, family, clergy, neighbors... etc.? Did anyone call him on those things or were they just accepted? That is, ACCEPTED, until it became EVERYONES’ problem????!!

Liberals departed from the rule book so long ago that they can’t conceive of individual accountability OR the consequences when individuals do just as they please without concern for reprimand or censure.

Depart from the book at your own peril. PERIOD

As you noted, personal responsibility is not in the liberal playbook. It’s all ~What society did TO someone~, or ~What society can do FOR someone~.
