One of the teen hikers who got lost in the wilderness of Orange County, prompting a massive five-day search effort that cost more than $160,000, has been charged with the possession of methamphetamine found during the hike.

Authorities found an illegal substance in the car in which Nicolas Cendoya, 19, had traveled to the trailhead in the Trabuco Canyon area of Cleveland National Forest, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Gail Krause said Wednesday.

I’m guessing they were looking for clues as to where he might be or maybe signs that he had been abducted.

The hiker and his friend went “hiking” and got lost, likely on drugs. They were lost for four days.

I think you would want to check out the car for a possible crime and/or evidence of where they were headed.

That much money spent on searching for a damn dopehead? They should have just let him stay lost. His carcass might have at least provided some nutritional value for the local wildlife critters.

A woman disappeared from a Michigan gas station where she worked a few days ago. I guarantee the police searched her car.

It’s hard to get lost for 4 days anywhere in Orange County unless you are high on drugs.

I’m a local; speculation was rampant around here that they were on a drug fueled binge. A family member is supposed to have told authorities the female had an ecstasy habit. The Sheriff’s Dept. had the car towed before they were found, probably looking for some type of clues. People I know who have hiked that area told me you really had to be negligent to get so far lost. If you add to that, the fact that a related criminal conviction would make the ‘victims’ liable for the cost of the search, this makes a lot of sense. Thank you.

From my hometown in Bama...about five years ago...there were three punks around age sixteen to seventeen, who in the middle of a summer day....took some paperbags and a small can of gas, and walked off into the woods to huff and puff.

Darkness came. Momma got upset that the boys hadn’t returned. Patience set in. Morning came....still nothing...no return. By the afternoon of the second day...three or four guys came by and began walking off into the woods to hunt down the lads. Darkness came again, and the boys hadn’t been found.

So by the third day....the local cop gets called up and he comes over. He organized five or six local guys, and they start walking off into the woods.

Around the fourth day, they stumble upon the boys...mostly blitzed, dehydrated, and incoherent. They probably could have survived another day, before they would have died. They would huff and puff on gas fumes, pass out....come to....huff some more.

Momma was all happy with the local cop for organizing and such. The three punks are worthless and there’s enough brain damage to say that they will never work or sustain themselves for the rest of their lives. It’d been better if no one went searching for them and just allowed them to pass onto a better place....six feet under.
