This issue is a classic leftist triangulation strategy to get those of us on the right to fight among ourselves so that the next Democrat nominee can run against the weakest, most wishy-washy Republican. It has already worked twice in the nominations of McCain and Romney.
Anything that divides and discourages some conservatives is to the benefit of liberalism.
