Obama Administration Grabs AP Phone Records

Obama's Freedom of the Press

Who would have thought something like this would happen? President Obama has been in the White House for over four years and if there is anything we have learned in that time, it is that he has no better friends than the ones he has in the media. I have lost count of the number of times the media has covered Obama's backside and prevented scandals from coming to light. Fast and Furious, Benghazi, etc., etc. These are all stories that should have highlighted exactly how incompetent and dangerous the Obama administration is, but none of them have gained traction. The media has played the part of a faithful dog, wagging its tail and refusing to see anything wrong with their master. At the same time, they have viciously attacked anyone who dares question anything Obama does. It has been over five years since the media started covering for Barack Obama, if you count the 2008 election. And he chooses now to subpoena the phone records of the Associated Press? Why would he do something like this?

Fox News - Lawmakers from both parties sharply questioned the Justice Department late Monday over its reported effort to secretly obtain two months of phone records from Associated Press journalists, with House Speaker John Boehner’s office saying “they better have a damned good explanation.”

The AP disclosed the department’s actions Monday afternoon, revealing that the news service had recently learned the department obtained records listing outgoing calls for the work and personal phone numbers of AP reporters and various AP offices. In all, the government seized the records for more than 20 separate telephone lines assigned to AP and its journalists in April and May of 2012.

You can imagine my surprise when I saw this story. Why would Obama and company willingly bite the hand that has so faithfully wiped away anything that could remotely damage their efforts to bring hope and change to America? Honestly, it doesn't strike me as a very smart move. I'm not the only one who views this with such incredulity.
The First Street Journal - Well, President Obama has had no better friends than his loyal sycophants in the professional media. They have covered for him and covered for him and covered for him, and about the dumbest thing he could do is to urinate off the people who had his back. The Watergate scandal undid President Nixon because he had enemies, lots of enemies, in the professional media — the only media around in 1972 — but no scandal could really touch President Obama as long as the media professionals were in his pocket.
Seriously, why would the Obama administration ask for the phone records of the AP? As John Boehner has already said, they better have a good explanation for why they felt it necessary to do this. I can hardly wait to hear what they have to say. While we are waiting for that explanation, which may not be forthcoming without a fight, allow me to speculate just a bit.

Stop and think about something. For years, many of us have warned that the Obama administration was overstepping its constitutional authority. Liberals have laughed us to scorn, saying our argument about the slippery slope did not hold water. Even last week, President Obama made this statement during his speech at the Ohio State University commencement.

Unfortunately, you’ve grown up hearing voices that incessantly warn of government as nothing more than some separate, sinister entity that’s at the root of all our problems; some of these same voices also doing their best to gum up the works. They’ll warn that tyranny is always lurking just around the corner. You should reject these voices. Because what they suggest is that our brave and creative and unique experiment in self-rule is somehow just a sham with which we can’t be trusted.
Whenever we have raised our voices to warn against the unnecessary and unconstitutional intrusion of our government into our lives, we have been told we are crying wolf. That's exactly what President Obama was saying to the graduates. Well, Mr. President, I beg to differ. Let's go over a list of reasons why we haven't been crying wolf and why so much of what President Obama has done since taking office has been clearly overstepping the boundaries set in the United States Constitution.

The coverup of what happened in Benghazi.

The IRS investigating conservative groups and their donors.

The running of guns into Mexico to make it appear most of them came from America.

The investigation, for reasons unknown, of the phone records of the Associated Press.

Should I go on, or is this list enough to make us realize where we are headed?

Of all the scandals that have came to light during Obama's time in the White House, the seizure of the AP's phone records troubles me the most. Even with most of the media firmly in his back pocket, he still feels the need to investigate them. It makes me wonder exactly what he and his administration officials are up to. Why do they feel the need to embark on what is clearly seen as an attack on the press? It makes no common sense, but even more than that, it scares me. How far is he willing to go to protect his agenda?

I expect Obama's liberal supporters will continue to insist he is just doing his job. The trouble is, the evidence against him is mounting. How much more do we have to see before we realize the direction he is taking our country is not only unconstitutional, but dangerous. The slope we are on is getting very slippery, indeed.

It’s basically over. This nation’s finished because it turned its back on God. None of this is news anymore and the bunch that voted this administration into power simply doesn’t care.

How’s that Transparency-In-Government coming along, Barry?

Actually, I don't care either. It is time for the media to suffer the same raping to which the rest of us have been subjected. They could have reported the truth about these evil people and helped stop all of this and did virtually nothing. Let them cry for help and let no one listen.

I expect the AP to turn the other cheek.

They aren’t going to change their brown nosing ways just because a few reporters had their phone numbers taken.

This is just a little note to Obama, a small threat not to do it again.

Perhaps we all misunderstood his statement. You know, we were told that he's so much smarter than us that we just don't understand him. I'm thinking the transparency he spoke of was ours and it was TO his administration.

I’m off to Williams Sonoma for a job lot of champagne glasses as I practice my Obama Vegas Cascade.

Ask them if they have any pressure cookers in stock.

I think it would be hilarious to start the rumor in the media that the administration had been spying on all of them, for purposes of blackmail. They are keeping any dirt they find on media people and their families.

The reason for this is that they don’t want to be criticized anymore, for anything. Unless media absolutely obey the Democrat party, they are “the enemy”, and will be coerced to shut up.

The icing on this is the generation of fraudulent dirt for those with no real dirt. That is, doing things like hiding child pornography on their computers, making fake offshore bank accounts to make them seem to be tax evaders, and implicating them with major illegal drug dealers.

I think Barry has really screwed the pooch with this little misadventure. The press is going to turn on him and its not going to be pretty. Would not surprise me if his real BC turns up shortly. Or a student ID from Occidental showing foreign student status.
